Hope this is the right place for this post.

I'm currently seeking beta readers and/or editors for a fantasy romance. It's set in a world I'd describe as lightly Warcraftish. It's M/F and fits a lot of the genre tropes for female-oriented romances. Send me a PM here or use my feedpack page:

(If you've edited for me before, this is no slight on you. I'm just trying to match works with people who are into them. I didn't want to presume!)

Word count? I'm guessing at least 8-10k when it's done. I have the prologue finished and it came in at about 2k.

I meant to do another short story before I started on a longer one, but the shorter one wasn't coming together correctly. So big fantasy tale it is. (I should note the story mainly centers on humans in this world. There just happen to be other elements that exist in the same universe.)

When it's done and polished the best you can get it is the time to ask for a beta reader or editor.

*grins* I understand that's how books are written. I'm looking for a social connection with someone likeminded who is willing to talk over a few things earlier in the process.

So, you're looking for a coauthor or ghostwriter rather than a beta reader or editor--or maybe just a hookup(?)

*pinches the bridge of her nose* No. It's like this. Some writers don't always write in a bubble. On some projects, I do "write with the door closed", as King puts it. Other times, I like having someone to talk to once in a while about my process. I have done this before and I have also been this type of reader for other people. It's not uncommon, I swear. Maybe it's a girl thing? I don't know. You write an outline, or a bunch of ideas, or several completed pages, then you get a sentence or two back of feedback, and so on. I apologize if I wasn't clear enough in my first message on the type of feedback I needed. I assumed I'd just talk to the person and made sure they were a good fit before I started sending them my crap.

Thank you for the advice. I know that with a proper writer/editor relationship, one should always send the most polished manuscript one can, so that no one is wasting anyone's time. It just so happens that's not precisely what I'm seeking at this very moment.

What you propose is common. I came upon a 1950s tale co-written by two best selling authors back when they were college students. The magazine editor read their submissions and suggested they get together to brain storm a story and write it. They did. Their interests were almost identical.

There you go, Olivia. As long as you want your story to sound like it was written by Raymond Chandler, you have your writing partner. Best of luck to you. :)

You don't have to listen to two stooges

G'day Oliver,

I know what you are getting at and don't let a couple of "professional commenters" discourage you in your search. All you are asking for is some feedback and a conversation about your writing, I assume you don't want to write War and Peace.
Unfortunately fantasy/romance isn't my thing so I won't be able to help you but keep looking because not all the people on this site are such pedantic arseholes.

That's actually really cool. The type of stuff I'm talking about goes on a lot on tumblr, and formerly places like livejournal. It's not the same thing as co-writing. It's almost performative. It's how a lot of fanfiction gets written, with girls teeheeing back and forth. I was hoping for a more grownup version of that. Like I said up there, I don't always want to write openly. It's just something I'd like to do with this one.

It's hard, sometimes, not having people whose opinions I trust to talk to about my writing. My husband is a darling, but his feedback consists of statements like "yup, I liked it" or "that was pretty hot". I would post "I need a friend" but that would draw all the wrong kind of responses.

I might be interested. It depends on the premise, though.

If you think about it what you propose is little different than people getting together for all the activities people enjoy but don't hafta do together. Fishing and gardening come to mind. Art. Music. Students study together.
