Best writing style?

So I have this story in my mind and I want to write it but I am in a toss-up regarding the right way to write it.

I want to put a bunch of extra stuff in it like:
"Location...an office building at 9:00 a.m."

Then start the story by doing a person point of view from one of the characters.

Is that too much going on ("different styles") or is it okay to work with?

If you want, I could give one of you serious writers a glance at my ideas and see what if anything can be changed.

Serious writers? Serious? Around here?! :D Maybe you were thinking of somewhere else ... These are some of the funniest people I've ever 'seen'.

As for working on your story. Have you considered posting some of what you have started on the Story Idea forum? Or maybe Story Discussion Forum (though I'm still unclear as to what is allowed there.) This talk might (just guessing here) be better suited there, and might get more attention ... but I could be wrong. If you don't really have anything started, why not work up three or so paragraphs in each version to show what you mean? Then someone might be able to give you some advice.

I'm not a 'serious writer', but hated to see your thread sink without comment! :rose:

IMO you should write your story however you choose. Everyone has their own style...and that's how it should be. Once your story is finished to your satisfaction, then you can post it in the Story forum for a critique if you like.

Good luck...and welcome to the AH. :D

I think it would be a great idea to write in that style. Anything you can do to make the telling of the story more transparent would be beneficial to the reader.

I recall a while back a movie came out with the scenes shown in reverse order - the least scene at the beginning, and so on working back to the first scene, which was at the end. Not that you'd want to do that, but it just shows that rules are made to be broken.

I'm with TE99. Try it!

Writing is like most other arts-- the only way to find out if it will work is to do it. :)

If it works, it is a valid writing style.

If it doesn't work you can amend it until it does.

Some of my early drafts are completely unrecognisable as contributors to the final stories because the names have been changed, the plot has been changed, the tenses and points-of-view have been changed etc...

If I have made that many changes, the original idea didn't really work...:D

Good pace for a plug for the Story Discussion Circle Board. They'll discuss anything that has to do with a story over there. The only thing they ask is that you repay the favor by participating in a couple reviews yourself.

That's all there is to it.

I'll vouch for the SDC, I got some great feedback there.
