So, I got a Wii and Wii Fit for my birthday, and we're having a lot of fun playing and being a lot more active. I'm not bored of the games yet, but especially since Christmas is coming, I would love suggestions on new games to try because a lot of the ones we've seen in the store look kind of lame and/or don't give any info on the boxes.

I suppose I'm looking for games in two categories, though those that fit into both would be ideal:
a) games that are just fun to play by myself or with my husband; and
b) those that provide a fair amount of exercise.

Any suggestions from the more experienced Wii players out there?

Any of the Raving Rabbids games. They are silly, fun to play whether you're alone or with a group of people, and fun to watch for people who aren't brave enough to try it out. It's impossible to stay still when you play and the games are so much fun that we have it on every time we have a house party and someone is always playing it.

Here's a preview video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QduvwetDFQ

Just Dance is a blast by myslef or with friends/family!

Yeah Mario Kart is really fun! I'd also suggest something like House of the Dead, it's basically all those zombie-shooting senseless games you play in the arcade, but it is fun :D

How active is one when they play Mario Kart? Is it something that you can work up a sweat with, or just for fun? Does it require additional accessories, besides the enhanced remote, nunchuk and balance board?
lol it is but can be slightly repitive at times. Tennis is fun

Yeah, I'm not good at tennis (or anything with stuff flying at me or that requires a lot of eye-hand coordination), but it's one of the games we play the most. Other games I like and play often are:
Table tennis
Golf
Bowling

Fit:
Obstacle Course
Ski Slalom
Snowboarding
Rhythm Boxing
Step Aerobics
A lot of the Balance and Plus games

So anything that's kind of like those will probably be enjoyable for me/us.

1.) Outdoor Challenge - Features a pad to step on that is required for many games, generic movement-based game, quite fun to watch others play.

2.) Wii Sports - Your Wii probably came with it, but it's still a fun game that is best when you're up and moving along with it. Bowling and Boxing are probably the most 'workout'-esque; boxing is the most movement, bowling has you going from sitting down for others' turns to standing up for yours.

3.) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Not as much of a workout, but the constant necessity of having the gun's arm pointed at the screen and the left-handed grapple involvement makes this game more active than many. Suited for those who enjoy shooters.

4.) Mario Kart Wii - Not as active, but a good, fun multi-player game.

5.) Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Mario games are almost always amazing. Getting used to moving around on small planets and the game's gravity effects 'cause of it may be tricky, but it's an uncommon thing for it to be enough to be annoying.

6.) Punch-Out!! - A Wii-creation of an NES classic, a very fun and active boxing game that's difficult to complete without having some very good reflexes, but very fun regardless.

Not, at, all. It's usually played sitting down. It only requires the Wiimote, and the wheel accessory is purely optional.
It's still pretty much as optimal as it gets for inter-family or inter-friend playing around. Just not movement based.

Wii Sports Resort, has some fun games, and some that are active. The sword showdown can be quite a little workout for the arms. My wife and I, both in our 40s, enjoy some of the games, as do our children, between 3 and 8. You will need to buy a Wii Motionplus accessory for each controller.

We bought Scooby Doo for the eight-year old, but we enjoy it too.

Star Wars Lego is a bit tedious.

NCAA Football is terrible.

Yeah, I'd kind of like to avoid sitting games for the most part. My whole point in wanting this thing is to get me OFF the couch, rather than keep me on it. I won't mind a sitting game or two (especially ones that require a good amount of mental activity) once my workout routine is more firmly established, but for now, Wii has to mean some exercise.

Anyway, I'll check out some of the others you mentioned. :)

Yep, Sports Resort came with the system, and it definitely has a lot of fun, active games. My ideal would be something more like that and/or the Fit games, especially for the variety, though I'm not sure if something like that exists.

I like this thread because I got given a Wii last christmas too.
I'm a bit tired out of the sports games and bought Carnival Games. I know it's lame to some but it's a fun trip down memory lane for me and my friends and winnning virtual stuffed toys is even better than the real thing because you don't have to dust them. :)

warioware smooth moves is a pretty fun game and is farily active too. It's similar to raving rabids.

I seriously recommend getting a gamefly.com account and trying out some games. For the price and quick shipping turn around, its a great way to see if certain games are any good. I think the starter fee is just $9 the first month and you can cancel after that.

Your husband might enjoy Monster Hunter Tri as well.

A couple of very fun and inexpensive games I would suggest:

Boom Blox and Boom Blox: Bash Party - These games were developed with Steven Speilberg and should be included with any new Wii purchase. Each of these games have received rave reviews from anyone who's played them. Always a good time playing with friends.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 4 Player Mario fun, 'nuff said

Mario Party 8 - Skip Wii Party and go right for this one. Tons of minigames and loads of fun that will be played over and over.

For the Adults:

Madworld - This game is so brutally over-the-top violent that you cannot take any of it seriously. This game can be found for >$15 most places as well.

House of the Dead: Overkill - This is a very fun light gun game especially when playing with friends

if you enjoy racing storyline games, you've got to try Need for Speed Undercover. Great storyline w/ real ppl. telling the story...almost like a movie to watch. you can customize your own cars & earn money while racing to either upgrade your current car or buy new cars. Very fun to outrun the cops while trying to complete missions.

Apparently there's a reboot of Goldeneye recently out that was rated very highly on Reviews on the Run.
