Obviously, responding to feedback via email is easy.

But I've received a lot of very positive comments to this story https://www.literotica.com/s/swinging-twins, and would like to respond to them. (They loved the writing and the story but hated the rather tragic ending.) About half of these comments are from "anonymous", and others are registered members.

What is the best way to respond to those comments?

Many Thanks!

You can't respond to anonymous.

You could leave a comment of your own but it is unlikely that the particular anonymous will come back to read it.

For the registered users - click on their name in the comment, scroll across and you will find 'contact'. You can send them a message of thanks.

I just leave a comment of my own with "@[username]" or "@Anonymous ([Subject or Date of comment])" in the subject line. I usually only do it when they give me something worth responding to, though; I won't respond just to say "thanks," nor will I respond to anything that puts me too far on the defensive (usually, at least). I basically just answer questions and provide insight.

To be sure, it's rare for people to leave a comment, rarer still for people to follow up on them. But I feel like it's good form anyway, and the few people who DO read comments will be able to get to know me a little better as an author.

Many thanks - I'll spend time doing that today.

The comments were very complimentary, so I think a brief acknowledgement is called for.

And sometimes......

And then sometimes I wonder about responding to comments. Have a story on Loving Wives and someone posted a really nice comment about a sequel so I responded and one day later the ratings had dropped from 4.78 to 4.74 on a story with almost 300 votes. Talk about one star bombs and trolls. Not that I worry about it, but if you stress out over ratings it would be .... frustrating? Annoying?

Whatever, I sat here feeling sorry for people who are sad enough to one star something they disagree with. It's a bit tragic really and I do feel sorry for them that they're that hung up about a story. I really don't understand the mind-set and the weird kick they must get. Strange....

One of my grad school perfessers gave no grade below a gold star. You got a gold star or nuthin (incomplete). He required 5 gold stars to pass his course. I tend to do the same with story scores. Most times I score 5 stars or nuthin. The no score doesn't hurt and I don't flatter mediocre effort. But many hate me for my private opinions they insisted on getting.

I have read a fair bit by a writer called Contrasting. The editing of his work is at best pretty variable, occasionally he is repetitious and he finds it hard to end stories. But he has talent, writes excellent dialogue, has a near genius for metaphor and similes and is thoroughly entertaining with amusing characters. I tend to give him 5's for the talent displayed and ignore the problems.

But I don't bother to score the well executed but uninspiring stories, let alone the mediocre. So like James it's 5 or nothing.
