Best way to change the title of every story in a series?

Hey all

I have two series called Jack’s Nudist Scholarship and Tracy’s Nudist Scholarship respectively

Now, I know to edit a chapter, I’m supposed to essentially submit the updated version as a new chapter, with a note (either in the title or in the Note to Admin) saying it’s an update and should replace the original.

Is there a better way to go about it when it comes to title changing? I want to change every chapter in the series to [NAME]’s Nude Scholarship, instead of [NAME]’s Nudist Scholarship.

Should I just resubmit each chapter with the new name, and mention I want them to replace older stories in the Note to Admin? Or is there a more efficient way to submit that request?

You might send a PM to Laurel explaining what you want to do, and she will either take care of it, or tell you to handle it.

BTW, I've been reading them and look forward to seeing how they develop.

Resubmitting stories as Edits gets the stories in front of Laurel in the fastest way possible, and will probably be quicker than a PM. Resubmit them as a block, with the same note in each one.

Wait - if the titles all have different "names" as the first word in the Series Title, that's really going to screw up your series list - you probably need to do it like this:

Nude scholarship - Archie
Nude scholarship - Betty
Nude scholarship - Charlie

The Series algorithm runs off the same title sequence first, then the alphanumeric chapter separation. Doing it with Name first will cock it all up, and look a bit odd in your story list (once you've got a whole bunch of stories).

Do it the way Electricblue suggests, or if it doesn't work to order the chapters both alphabetically AND chronologically, do something like:

Nude Scholarship Pt. 1 -- Betty
Nude Scholarship Pt. 2 -- Archie

Forgot to mention: They’re two separate series that take place in the same world at the same time and sometimes overlap, sort of like sister series. So they’re supposed to be listed as separate.

Thank you for the help though, everyone

This is what I did with my Hot Tub Series.

I think that I sent an edit on the first story with the title change using this procedure:

In the "comments to the administrator" section, I detailed how I wanted the rest of the stories to be re-titled. It took a little over a week, but the changes were made.

Not easy to do unless you're Sue Grafton and you'r writing an alphabetical series called "Letter is for Subject."

Seriously? You call yourself a writer and you can't come up with a title that isn't wishy-washy or that you're generally happy with?

Folks want to edit after they're published. Changing the title is the same thing. Editing for typos on a second printing is one thing, but you should only publish when you're finished. Changing the title weeks/months later scream that you weren't finished. If you're posting before you're finished then you're probably just jonesing for the gratification of scores. Wait a week. Read it all back. Make sure that you're still happy with it before you hit publish.

I mostly agree with what you say about making sure that everything is in as much of a final form as possible, but iRL I've written stories that were intended to be stand-alones, only to have the characters insist on sequels. "Summertime Sex Ed" is one of those. Emily wouldn't shut up until I had written seven more installments.

Another one was "Daughters of Priapus." It was also a stand-alone, but a couple of years later I revisited it and found that there was more to tell, hence three more chapters. ("Ginnie's Ice Play" is one of them.)

On this site, I write and publish and share for fun. I'm not overly concerned whether a story is going to have sequels.

You did get that the reference to the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton was intended as a joke, right?

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Notice that they didn't go back and rename the first one Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

A card laid is a card played. ;)

But they did go back and tack Episode IV - A New Hope on the original Star Wars movie.
