Best Friends (closed)

Kali wasn't the type of girl who spent hours in the mirror to get ready and she was more likely to be found wearing sweat pants or jeans than a short skirt of skimpy dress. She had always been the studious one... Always done her homework, including all of the assigned reading. It didn't lead to much of a love life, and the few dates she did go on were usually with guys who like her, were a bit on the nerdy side. Her best friend however, was her polar opposite. He had always been the big athlete... Mr popularity... They had been friends since high school. They had ended up going to the same college. He had no shortage when it came to dates that was for sure. Lately, the girl he had been dating was defiantly changing their friendship. They had always had a standing "date" each week, lately it had become every other week or sometimes every three weeks. It was disappointing, but if he was happy. That was the problem, Kali wasn't sure he was happy. Even tho they didn't see each other every day, they did text. From the messages she got from him he didn't seem like his happy self...

It was a Friday night and Kali was at home, watching a movie on Netflix when she got a text. It asked what she was doing, typing back "watching netflix, what's up?" About a minute later someone knocked on her apartment door. She opened it and was surprised to see him standing there, holding pizza and beer. "Hey! What are you doing here?" She asked as she stepping back, letting him inside.

Joey had been Kali's best friend all through high school and even into their first 3 years of college. Upon the beginning of their 3rd year of school Joey had started dating a pretty blonde who became very jealous of Kali and Joe's relationship. Joey was a left handed pitcher who was 6'3 and threw in the mid 90's this being his Jr. Year was the year he was to make his money on the draft. However, Joey had other plans. Joey loved playing baseball and desperately wanted to make a living doing it but he had other promises he had to keep. Joey came from nothing and to be honest the only reason he was able to go to college was because he played baseball. In fact even though he was drafted out of high school his mother insisted he went to college.

Now Joey was in the same position in only a few more months he was set to be drafted once again. Yet before leaving for school Joey promised his mother he would be the 1st from his family to graduate. When Joey had started dating Emily he told her this but she thought she could talk him out of it and she found Kali a threat as she knew Joey's mothers wishes and his desire to keep them. After the opening night of the first weekend series Joey had thrown a great game and when he left the clubhouse there was Emily along with a group of scouts. Right there in front of Emily Joey thanked the men for coming but informed them no matter what he would be staying in school at the end of the season. The scouts took his remarks with a grain of salt and departed. Once they were gone on the walk back to Joey's dorm emily informed him that if was going to be stupid and not take the money she could not be with someone as she called it "ignorant." Right there Joey told her to hit the road.

After a few moments of calming down Joey found himself walking the streets of campus until he reached a familiar spot. It was Kali's apartment building. After sending her a text he softly tapped on the door and as she opened and asked what he was up to he smiled. "Well won the game turned down the money and lost the broad!" Joey flashed his boyish grin at her standing there with his tall frame and waited for Kali's response.

Kali was in shock. All that had happened in one night?! She stepped aside and let him in, "well I watched the game, of course... And you played amazing, as usual." She looked at him thoughtfully, "as far as the rest you're going to have to fill me in." It had been quite some time since they had really spoken but then it felt just like old times.

They walked to the living room and sat on the couch. She listened as he had explained what had happened and when he finished she shook her head, "we've always known the offers would be there... And they will still be there after graduation... I know how important it is to you... And your mom for you to graduate... I'm sorry Emily didn't understand." Kali had never been Emily's biggest fan but Joey had said she made him happy so she had taken a big step back, it had been hard but she really only wanted to see him happy.
"So all that and then you ended up here huh?" She smiled at him

As Joey stepped in the doorway of her apartment he shrugged his shoulders. "Ah you win some you win some, you lose some right?" Joey played it off as though it wasn't bothering him and really it wasn't. I guess that is the ball player mentality.

Walking in he plopped down on the couch. Looking at the TV and smiling. "Something's never change do they Kali girl? Little Netflix marathon on a Friday night? I garuantee there is a big ass book around here?" Joey laughs and looks up at her as he gives a good tease. "So what you got to eat around here girl! I am starving!" Joey kicks his brand new tennis shoes off and plops his feet up on the coffee table almost like he lived here and looks at Kali and gives her a crazy little smile.

Kali shook her head and laughed as he teased her, it really was just like old times. "Hey, there's nothing wrong with being predictable." She sat down next to him, one leg curled under herself. "Actually I thought you were the pizza I ordered, it should be here any time, it's friday, I always have pizza on Fridays silly." She laughed winking at him.

As she teased him about being predictable he laughed. "Who could predict pizza night! Let me guess plain pepperoni with extra cheese!" Joey laughed and settled into the couch. "So wha is on Netflix tonight." He asked looking at her then smiled. "Did you do something new with your hair?" He asked as he looked at her playfully.

She laughed at his comment, "well we did determine that was the best kind of pizza there is didn't we?" She glanced at the tv, having forgotten all about her Netflix marathon, "actually I have been mKing my way thru the entire catalog of Netflix. So far, I'm at the letter C." She shook her head knowing how lame that had to sound to Joey. But then he distracted her by asking about her hair, "oh, umm... I was just trying something different.. Seeing what all the hype was about when it comes to straighteners.... Does it look stupid?" She ran her fingers thru her hair nervously.

Laughing as she mentions how she is working her way through the catalogue and is on the letter C. "Leave it to Kali to try and conquer Netflix like she does everything else!" He teases. Looking up at her as she runs her hand through her hair after mentioning she was trying something new. "Well I don't think I would say anything if I didn't think it looked good! To be honest! It looks real good! Too good for someone sitting on her couch eating pizza and watching Netflix on a Friday night." Joey smiles just as the doorbell rings for the pizza

She blushed a little, "well thank you... Sweet of you to notice." When the bell rang she stood up, "must be pizza time." She walked to the door to get the pizza and returned a few minutes later. "So, what would you like to watch?" She sat the pizza on the coffee table, nudging his feet down to the floor and laughing. She went to the kitchen to grab napkins and glanced back into the living room at where her best friend sat. She wasn't sure how it had happened but she had him back.

As she nudge his feet in the floor Joey laughed. "I don't care I guess what ever is next in the catalogue as you call it?" Joey teased as he opens the box of pizza and pulls a slice out of the box eating it with no plate or anything as any man would do.

"What do you want to watch? I am sure you will pick a documentary or something knowing your brainy interests!" Joey laughed as he takes a bite of the pizza and awaits her return. He didn't know what it was about her but tonight Kali had a different look about her. He had always thought she was pretty but as she stood with her back to him in the kitchen he couldn't help but admire how nice her backside looked in the tight little yoga pants she was wearing. Joey tried not to stare but he had to admit Kali had quite the little ass in her. He chuckled at the thought and then took another bite of the pizza as he continued to look at her.

She returned and shook her head laughing, "oh don't worry Jo, go ahead... Don't wait for me or anything... Help yourself." She winked as she took a seat next to him. "And I will have you know, I was watching a romantic comedy..." Grabbed a slide and bit into it before continuing, "It's the only romance I get in my life so I take what I can get." She took another bite and the cheese oozed and it started to fall down the front of her tshirt. She looked down and just shook her head, "you know, it's a good thing it's just you here or might have been embarrassed." She laughed and grabbed a napkin. It did little to get the greasy spot out and she sat up, pulling the shirt off as she stood up to walk to the kitchen to rinse the spot. It didn't even dawn on her that she was standing in her bra and yoga pants in front of him.

As she mentioned romance Joey laughed . Then as she grabbed the pizza and it feel down to her shirt he laughs again. However, the laugh is soon stopped when she jumps up and removes her shirt and walks away. Shaking his head to make sure that just happened he chuckled to himself and admires the view. Then being quick witted he says to her "you know I think you spilt some on those pants too. I would hate to see you get a stain there too!"

She looks up at him from the sink and rolls her eyes, "oh hush. Act like you haven't seen it all before... On way better looking girls than me." She finished rinsing the shirt and hung it over the counter as she walked back thru the living room to head to her room to grab a dry shirt. "Pick whatever you want to watch, Im just going to grab a shirt real quick."

As she walked by Joey couldn't help but stare. "Yes I have seen before wouldn't go as far as seen better!" Joey couldn't believe how good Kali looked. As she mentioned getting a new shirt he quickly says "woo woo wait! No need to put another shirt in until we get done eating right? Would hate to mess up another one right? You are a smart girl!" Joey grinned trying to convince her to sit with him a little longer without a shirt on in just her bra.

Kali laughed and rolled her eyes, "somehow I don't believe that... You want me to sit here shirtless with you?, that would be awkward." She smiled at him, as she walked behind the couch she looped her arm around his neck and planted a playful kiss on his cheek, "it's good to have you back Joey!"

"Who wouldn't want you to sit here shirtless with them?" As de walked back in he felt her arms wrap around him. As she kissed his cheek Joey felt electricity run through him. "It's good to be back! More the reason for you not to put a shirt in!" He says playfully as he looks up at her with her arms draped over him. He couldn't believe how good she looked. "I mean it's not like I haven't seen you in a bikini before?" Joey still trying to plead his case as she drapes over him.

She laughs, "it's not bikini weather right now... And me being the only one is just wierd." She smiled at him. She lets go of his neck and stands up. She leaves the room and comes back a minute later with a fitted zip up on, the zipper lowered with some cleavage showing. She took a seat on the couch with him again and picked up her pizza, taking a bite. She looked over at him and laughed, "don't look so disappointed Joey!"

"Hey a man is always disappointed when boobs are involved and you don't get what you want!" Joey laughed and takes a sip of drink and sets back on the couch. "And as for being the only one. I would have gladly removed my shirt for the cause." He teases. Leaning his head back against he couch and looking her way. "But you are right Kal. It feels good to be back. It has been to long. Where you been hiding?" He smiles acting like she is the one who has been gone.

She shook her head "give me a break. We both know why you haven't seen me in a while... It's what you said you needed, remember?" She looked over and smiled, "I can't say I'm disappointed that you changed your mind tho." She leaned back and smiled at him, "your mom was quite angry when you didn't make it back home to visit over the break." She winked, "I told her I would just have to suffice." She was sure he had no idea she had spent part of their break from school visiting him mom, but she had been closer than her own mom for a long time.

"Well mom knows I had to stay here and get ready for the season. Plus she told me all about you being there with her. You brown noser. I always swore she loved you more than me." Joey teased and nudged her.

"But I am here now! You have joey's full attention! And I am sorry for the way I acted. Emily was alway on my ass. To be honest she was quite jealous and intimidated by you." Joey smiled and nudges her. "And to be honest now that I think about it who wouldn't be. The beauty and the brains. Is quite the package." Joey smiled and then placed his feet back up in the table that he had knocked down earlier.

She laughed and shook her head, "it's not brown nosing when your mom had been like my mom did this long!" She bumped him back. She choked laughing when he said Emily had been jealous and intimidated. "Now that's just stupid, we've been best friends for so long, if you had wanted it to be more it would have happened already." She smiled at him.

He mentioned beauty and brains and it made her smile, "ahh Joey the smooth talker.... Always saying the right things." She watched him put his feet back on the coffee table and laughed shaking her head, "you're impossible."

"Oh so if I would have wanted it! I could of had huh?" Joey laughs and looks over at her. "Well I find that hard to believe because I couldn't even get you to keep your shirt off!" Grabbing the remote for the tv he begins flipping through the Netflix options.

"And as for my mom. She always loved you more. I can't even count the times she has said. Why don't you and Kali just hook up!" Laughing "yes she used the word hook-up." Chuckling again. "I don't think she knew what that term really meant. But I was always quit to reply. Well mom she won't let me get it in!" Laughing as he winks at her.

She rolled her eyes, "come on Joey, how many times has any girl told you no? They would be crazy, and most of them don't know you the way I do." When he brought up his mom she started cracking up, "your poor mom, she defiantly didn't know what hooking up meant... But she has asked me a lot of times what's wrong with us, why can't we see what's right in front of us." She smiled and looked at the tv as he scrolled thru the Netflix catalog.

Laughing he looked at her. "C'mon what would a pretty brainy girl like you want with an old country boy like myself?" Joey laughed. "Besides you are way to hot for me. But I have to admit. I have wondered what it would be like to be with you from time to time. I think you could take pretty good care of me." Joey smiled being sincere for a moment.

"But then I have also worries about what you were like in the bedroom I know you smart girl sometimes are into some pretty kinky stuff. I don't know to might try to tie me up or whip me or something!" Joey quickly goes back to his playful side and nudges her again. "Is that your thing being all dressed up in leather and being in control!" Laughing. "Yeah I can see that from you!"

Kali smiled at his first comment, "well I would like to think I'm a pretty good catch..... But then again judging by my long standing single status that may be just me who thinks so." She shrugged her shoulders.

Then he made the next comment and she turned beat red, "Joey!!" She pushed him and shook her head, "give me a break! It was one Halloween.... No. I am defiantly NOT into that kinda stuff!"
