Best/Fav Gig Ever?

Stevie Ray Vaughan 1987. Will always be my number one show of all time.

Others would be the 15 times I saw the Allman Brothers Band, Ozzy with Randy Rhoads, Black Sabbath, Queen, Pink Floyd, Trans Siberian Orchestra, Metallica, Little Feat, Joe Cocker, Kansas, The Tubes, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Joe Bonamassa, The Beat Farmers, Southern Culture On The Skids, The Cowslingers, The Rugburns, Mojo Nixon, Brian Setzer, Van Halen in 1981, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Sleepy Labeef, Jason Aldean, Montgomery Gentry, Travis Tritt, John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, The Paladins, Here Come The Mummies, and hundreds more..

I saw Billy Joel play at Wembley Arena during the Uptown Girl tour.. First time I saw him, and we went with some friends. We had tix on the main floor in the middle.. every time a song was over, we'd jump up and scream cause that's what Americans do at shows.. Part of the ways in, a guy came and got me and my buddy Cliff and led us to the stage. I was standing right below Billy's piano and we were the only ones standing. The Brits looked at us like we were crazy or something, but we didn't care.. We went wild... a couple songs later we were being crushed by the mob that had ended up following us up there.. GREAT SHOW!!

That's an impressive list....love Allerman Brothers Band, but, never seen them live; sounds like I've been missing out.

Likewise missed out on John Mayall and the Blues Breakers.Damn!

Woof!

The Clash. '83ish? Santa Barbara

I saw the Clash as well around that same time in Detroit. Small old theatre place. The Romantics sat...behind us. lol

It was the kind of show that you had to know someone to get tix and everyone who was anyone was there. And us too.

I still have the ticket stub I believe.

I have the stubs from almost all of the nearly 600 shows I have seen.

Music is one of my biggest passions... I've seen over 400 bands..

I saw John Mayall by accident.. There's a place here in Detroit that has a bigger venue downstairs and a smaller one on top. The sound guy for the lower one that John Mayall was playing overdosed on heroin right before the show so they moved it upstairs where the bands we were there to see were playing.. it was awesome, one of better shows I've seen. I love the blues..

Robert Randolph and the Family band is another amazing band to see.. Steady Rollin Bob Margolin was Muddy Waters guitar player for a long time.. I saw BB King too, but he's lost his touch with age.. saw Pinetop Perkins before he died and he was still playing at 96 years of age....

Santana too, Velvet Revolver, Silvertide.. I can't remember them all.

:)

I wish I had explored England's music scene when I was there... you have some great psychobilly over there, I've seen the Meteors play here..

I saw the Romantics too.. what place? Remember?

Weird thing too I remember going backstage to a Lords of the New Church gig and I was like wait a minute thats Terry Chimes and he was there to play drums filling in for Nicky whatever his name was for the gig.

I have some pics someplace.

The Romantics were there for the show sitting in the row behind us, not playing. It was one of the old theaters concert places down by grand circus park off Woodward. I'll have to go into my stubs.

Another story. I saw Steve Miller, J. Geils and good grief the third big band escapes me at the Pontiac Silverdome in the late seventies.

Anyhow....Romantics opened wearing their red leather suits and almost got laughed off the stage. This was a year before that brand of music got hip and they got huge.

I saw them around half a dozen times though. They used to practice in this old rental house in Hazel Park not far from where I lived for a while.

NIN, Fragility tour, spring of 2000 in Dallas, the show blew my tits right the fuck off....I mean right the fuck off.

Of all the shows Ive seen I have to ay probably that Princes 1999 tour was probably one of the most memorable.

Prince, Vanity Six and The Time. Sat second row center.

Sad story there was went with a hot girl (of course) and these two gay friends and one of those guys was one of the first people to die of Aids in the country.

Great gig though....was THE place to be that night.

Morris Day and the Time was the band for all three deals and Prince fucked Vanity on stage on a bed....I swear to god.

The Fillmore and Fox are there.. The Fillmore was the State Theater when I used to see shows there.. Great places to go. I've been twice since I came back home.

Typically I love the small venues... St Andrews, The Magic Stick, Majestic, Magic Bag, Lillis, The Falcon Club, Smalls, Pjs Lagerhouse, even the Gold Dollar in the middle of the cass corridor...we saw Goober and the Peas turned into Two Star Tabernacle... one of the first shows Jack White sang in.. He was AWFUL.

I remember sitting second row for the Cars. Right in front of Rick Okasick(sp)

He was like a robot and never fucking moved or changed his expression. No matter how hard we tried to get him too.

lol

I saw the Clash in a small dark venue also, Arlington Theater. Must have been their thing.

Well that doesn't surprise me. He's over rated by half at least.

I used to go to the skin flicks at the god what was it called.

Magic Bag was an adult theatre for ever before they turned it into a bar.

Studio 6 or some shit....grrrr.

I saw tons of great shows at the Royal Oak Theatre.

Journey, April Wine, Toto (went backstage....I knew Jeff Porcaro....he's dead now) and a couple awesome Tubes shows.

Loved The Tubes

Santana too, Velvet Revolver, Silvertide.. I can't remember them all.

I've seen Santans 10-15 times. Every summer they were at Pine Knob (dte) for multi shows. We would go at least once every year.

Same with ZZ....never missed ZZ shows.

Not the best one I'd ever been to, but one of the most memorable was watching Joan Jett in Sacramento, I think at Folsom Lake? That whole time period was a little blur. Someone had filled up a jug of water and threw it at her and it hit her in the head. BONK! She kept on playing, one of the funniest things I'd seen.

He was terrible... sounded like a cat being strangled. Of course Goober was our buddy and we didn't have the heart to tell him the guy sucked...lol

The Gold Dollar was a strip club at one time I know.. probably the worst part of Detroit..thankfully they had fenced in parking otherwise there was no way I was leaving my truck out there..

The Tubes with Fee are spectacular.. I saw them last year in Pittsburgh.. GREAT show.. Fee never fails to entertain and his voice still sounds great too..

Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town, tour.....crazy good, made me a fan for life

James Hunter 6, great Jazz/Ska band.

Saw them this year in a small sleazy hall attached to a pub in Leicester, and yeah the venue added to it no end……took me back to a small smokey, after hours Jazz club I used to go to in the 80’s at Rotherhithe, London.

So yeah, the venue adds to it and I prefer small venues normally.

Woof!

It's funny... ZZ Top is my number one most disappointing show. I saw them at the Palace... The Black Crowes opened and they were so new, they played their bigger songs twice, lol..

ZZ came on and it was during that Gimme All Your loving stuff... I wanted to hear the older bluesy stuff but there was almost none. VERY disappointing... I wanted to hear guitar and instead heard mostly drums..
