Go the the Story Circle Forum. There is a thread in there that has been running for more than a year with this topic.

And this is another topic that has been beaten to death...

There isn't a best all time story. Scouries will give you a lead but ...

Try the toplists in the categories that appeal to you and work down.

I don't like Dan Brown or Dannielle Steel, but their bank balances laugh at me .

Stop trying to find the Holy Grail - just enjoy what you read.

The Longest, possibly, and the best

There's too many varying categories and riting styles to define one as "the best". It's all personal opinion, and even that changes from day to day.

The "best story" depends on individual taste.
It depends on what a reader is looking for - a stroker or a thinker; long or short; hot sex or implied; same sex or hetero; vanilla or kinked...
It also depends on how much you've read. There are literally more than a 100,000 stories here. I think I've read maybe 200. Not much of a sample.

The story "Stolen Virtue", a delicious 8 Lit pages long. Or settle for less.

You should have prefaced your comment with the fact that you are the author.

kinda what I thought, but I'm trying to be a kinder, gentler Cloudy.

Not to a newbie it isn't. Takes ages to learn how to negotiate the site and find those threads buried in a place like story circle. Better for a newbie to join a thread than start one. Even then, to join a thread without killing it is a challenge.

johndoe, did you want to chat about personal tastes or seriously find a good story?

btw: there are very few threads in the Story Discussion Circle. If you'd looked, you would have known that the thread mentioned is on the first page.

forget that kinder gentler stuff...it's just not working for me

Phew. You had me worried for a minute there, Cloudy.

I'm more asking for opinion more than anything. Obviously people have different tastes.

I have no opinion. There are a lot of great pieces on this site. Judge for yourself, that's my only advice.

And don't bother with any of my work...the best is definitely not there.

Thank goodness. It would have taken some getting use to.

Yeah. I shoulda looked for sure. Through all the forums before breakfast. I only visited this forum on invitation to see what was going on. Now I don't like the look of it at all.

When a person is new to the site they look but don't see. All those columns of figures - what do they mean? Some forums seem the same at first till you blunder through the wrong door and get shouted down. I've had my head down doing heaps of editing and didn't know till recently how exclusive and elitist some groups are.

Because I work with people of all types I'm used to cultivating the good in them, not slamming the uninitiated before they get a chance to hit their stride.

There is no buzz for me in a quick victory as it automatically implies a victim and produces no good.

SB please come back.

I didn't "slam" anyone. You said that it would "take ages to find those threads buried in a place like (the) story circle." I simply pointed out that you were wrong.

I'm sorry that's so tough for you to handle. Do you handle criticism of your writing the same way?

Now that's the Cloudy we all know and love :D

Best Of The Best

The short story ELEANOR RIGBY by HARDDAYSKNIGHT stands alone at the top of the top. Some of the works mentioned are fine works of erotica. However, the works of HARDDAYSKNIGHT are great because they help many of us with problems we are having in our marriages.HEY JUDE is a close second, it saved me from a big mistake and taught me to appreciate what I had.The works of WINTERFROG deserve honorable mention as they are loaded with useful advise.

Yeah, but neither is your flame mode

So? Someone new to the site was making a general statement. They haven't spent the time that others have to know the bulletin board like the back of their hand. Your point? To exhibit your self acclaimed brilliant wit at the expense of a newbie who may dive into the deeps of lurking?

Sheesh, let's give folks a break. But clearly that doesn't work for you. Bring it on.

There is nothing new under the sun. Cliche's are so boring, don't you think?
