I certainly remembered the times I heard him saying it; my eyes popped out. He's obviously, even by your own admission, being mealymouthed about what his plans are to do about it--along with much of the rest of what his program is other than stopping Wall Street from doing whatever and corporate buying of politicians, which would be nice to stop. (I think G-S paying Hillary $250,000 for a speech is outrageous too. But then I thought the $50,000 fee to attend Trump's wedding was outrageous--both because he paid it and because she accepted it.) Sanders hasn't said how he'd get any of this stopped, of course. He doesn't really have to fill in those blanks. He's got supporters who think that a promise is a delivery.

There's just about zero chance of him having a Congress land in his lap that will let him build anything--and it's most likely they'll be happy just to dismantle Obamacare (which, I'm willing to bet is the best deal most folks opposing it, including some of those on this forum, are ever likely to get as a health care plan they need. I think soooo many are shooting their own interests in the foot over this on some false sense that it will be the end to them being true-blue 'Mericans.) But, again, I have a cushy federal plan paid by the government and backed up by Medicare, so if they want to be dumb, I can survive that.

IDK when....you can go dig through the debate transcripts and find out. But he outright denied that he would get rid of ACA without something better, closer to UHC in place first.

Jeff Merkley becomes first US senator to endorse Bernie Sanders for president

Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley endorsed Bernie Sanders on Wednesday for the party’s presidential nomination, becoming the first member of the Senate to announce support for the fellow U.S. senator from Vermont.

In a New York Times column announcing his endorsement, Merkley said he supports Sanders for his work battling economic inequality, opposing trade deals and fighting for the middle class.

“It is time to recommit ourselves to that vision of a country that measures our nation’s success not at the boardroom table, but at kitchen tables across America,” Merkley wrote. “Bernie Sanders stands for that America, and so I stand with Bernie Sanders for president.”

Merkley praised Sanders’ Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, who also served in the Senate, and said he recognized Sanders has an “uphill battle” to defeat her.

AS 40,000 VERIZON workers went on strike Wednesday to protest cuts to health care and pensions, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders rallied with some of them in New York City, blasting the company’s practices.

“This is just another major American corporation trying to destroy the lives of working Americans,” Sanders told the workers, who decided to strike after failing to reach a contract. “Today you are standing up not just for justice for Verizon workers, you’re standing up for millions of Americans who don’t have a union.”

Meanwhile, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam published a lengthy essay on LinkedIn titled “Feeling the Bern of Reality — the Facts About Verizon and the ‘Moral Economy,’” in which he called Sanders’s views “contemptible.”

McAdam took issue with statements by Sanders blasting the company’s tax avoidance and offshoring, and asked the senator to “show me a company that’s done to more to invest in America than Verizon.”

“I understand that rhetoric gets heated in a presidential campaign. I also get that big companies are an easy target for candidates looking for convenient villains for the economic distress felt by many of our citizens,” he concluded. “But when rhetoric becomes disconnected from reality, we’ve crossed a dangerous line. We deserve better from people aspiring to be president. At the very least, we should demand that candidates base their arguments on the facts … even when they don’t fit their campaign narratives.”

The response to McAdam’s post was effusive — from other Verizon executives:

Missing from the post and the congratulatory lovefest from executives was any recognition of the grievances of the striking workers. For example, McAdam complains about $1.4 billion in health care costs, but does not cite the fact that the company has seen spiking revenue for the past three years — from $120.6 billion in 2013 to $131.6 billion in 2015. Operating cash flow last year was at $38.9 billion. McAdam’s own compensation rose 16 percent from 2013 to 2014, topping out at $18.3 million.

Pope Francis and Bernie Sanders meet to discuss need for morality in world economy

Pope Francis met U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in the Vatican on Saturday morning and the two discussed the need for morality in the world economy before the pontiff left for a visit to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs told Reuters that the meeting took place in the Vatican guesthouse where the pope lives and where Sanders had spent the night after addressing a Vatican conference on social justice.

The Vatican had said that a meeting between the two was not planned, and Sanders said he did not expect to meet the pope during his trip.

“He is a beautiful man,” Sanders said in an interview with ABC News after the meeting. “I am not a Catholic, but there is a radiance that comes from him.”

Just a few days after announcing that it had hired Simone Zimmerman to be its national Jewish outreach coordinator, the Bernie Sanders campaign suspended her position yesterday, in reaction to loud, right-wing criticism of her positions, activism, and language in opposing the Israeli occupation and its enablers. I had planned yesterday to take on her chorus of critics for their ethically compromised and sometimes farcical gotcha-combing of Zimmerman’s very public and proud paper trail. Now, I must add some serious, head-shaking, profound disappointment in the Sanders campaign for what really looks like management amateur hour.

From her home in Brooklyn, NY, the Los Angeles-raised Zimmerman has emerged in the past few years as one of the most effective organizers and articulate voices of the burgeoning population of Millenial-led Jews immersed in Jewish cultural, religious, and intellectual life while vigorously opposing the Israeli occupation and the establishment Jewish community’s support for it. Most notably, Zimmerman was one of the founders and is one of the leaders of If Not Now, “A movement to end the American Jewish community’s support for the occupation and gain freedom and dignity for all Israelis and Palestinians” (taken from the INN Facebook page), which sprung up from a 250-person protest Tisha B’Av service during Israel’s invasion of Gaza in 2014, and has since seeded chapters and activism in cities around North America. In an earlier and more center-left stage of life, Zimmerman developed her political chops serving as J Street U national board president as an undergrad at Berkeley, where she helped lead opposition to a campus BDS resolution. Here is what I read. First off, its on ALL Americans, with the exception of the bottom earners. Senator Sanders’s plan would decrease after-tax incomes for taxpayers at all income levels, but especially high-income taxpayers.

In an analysis released today, the Tax Foundation, an independent tax policy research organization, found that Sanders’ plan would lead to 10.56% lower after-tax income for all taxpayers, and a 17.91% lower after-tax income for the wealthiest Americans. When accounting for reduced GDP, taxpayers would see their after-tax incomes fall by 12.84% on average, the report said.

Economic Impact
According to the Tax Foundation’s Taxes and Growth Model, Senator Bernie Sanders’s tax plan would reduce the economy’s size by 9.5 percent in the long run. The plan would lead to 4.3 percent lower wages, an 18.6 percent smaller capital stock, and 6.0 million fewer full-time equivalent jobs. The smaller economy results from higher marginal tax rates on capital and labor income.

Also, looks to me like he is going to Employers, in a few different ways, he is messing with Health Care...

In a detailed analysis, Dylan Matthews at Vox estimates that Sanders’ proposed income-based tax hikes alone—ignoring Sanders’ other proposed taxes, such as those on carbon and financial transactions—would pencil out to an 8.8 percentage point increase for those with income below $250,000.

Bernie Sanders has been calling for a revolution. And that's pretty much what his tax proposals would help deliver.

For starters, Sanders' plan would raise $15.3 trillion in new revenue over the first decade and another $25 trillion in the next decade, according to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center.

That's the "largest peacetime tax increase in history," said Tax Policy Center director Len Burman.

Almost everyone would chip in something under his plan, but the highest income households would pay the most by far among individuals. Businesses would also help foot the bill in some major ways.

In addition to raising many current taxes, Sanders would introduce two new ones: a financial transaction tax on investors and a carbon tax that would be passed onto consumers by way of higher prices for energy, airfares, groceries and the like. But individuals with adjusted gross incomes under $100,000 would get rebates for that carbon tax.

If all the new revenue raised under Sanders' plan went to reducing deficits it would wipe out all debt held by the public within 20 years, TPC estimates.
But it won't be used for that purpose. Sanders has made clear he'd use it to pay for his proposals to provide Medicare for All, free college and infrastructure spending, among other things.

The payroll tax burden for employers and for high-income households would go up notably.
To help bolster Social Security funding, Sanders would apply the 6.2% payroll tax to income over $250,000. Currently it only applies to the first $118,500 in wages.
In addition, he'd finance a paid family leave program by requiring all employees and their employers to pay an additional 0.2% payroll tax on the first $118,500 in wages.
Lastly, he's proposing a new 6.2% payroll tax that employers would pay on all of an employees' wages to help fund Medicare for All.

The plan would raise taxes across the board, by an average of $9,000 overall, lowering households' after-tax income by about 12%.

But the biggest hit by far would be on high-income filers.

Those in the top 0.1% -- i.e., those with income over $3.7 million -- would see their tax bill go up by more than $3 million on average, reducing their after-tax income by 45%.

Middle-income households, meanwhile, would pay $4,700 more on average, or about 8.5% of their after-tax income.

USA spends more per capita on healthcare with worse results than nations who manage their systems better. Doesn't help that USA providers siphon-off close to 20% of healthcare dollars for executives and stockholders.
