Bernie!

Some people aren't that interested in Trump. Regardless saying more people watched something on TV than went to an event is dumb. I bet the number of people who watched the Super Bowl on tv dwarfs those in the arena as well.

Bernie Sanders visits Iowa looking to recreate Obama’s 2008 surge over Hillary

The U. S. senator from Vermont, who is an independent but running for president as a Democrat, has been drawing huge, enthusiastic crowds in friendly places such as college campuses and liberal bastions like Portland, Ore., and Madison, Wis.

Friday night he was out of those comfort zones, sharing the bill in Clear Lake, population 7,692, with Democratic presidential candidates Clinton, Martin O'Malley and Lincoln Chafee.

A growing number of voters appear interested in Sanders' unapologetic message and willingness to challenge Washington orthodoxy. He moved ahead of Clinton in a recent poll in New Hampshire, site of the first presidential primary next year.

Still, winning the Democratic presidential nomination means capturing the party's key elements, including women, blacks and Hispanics — voting blocs that has always given Clinton strong support.

Go Bernie, GO!

I have to agree with Boxi. Americans are half retarded. Bernie's messages speaking to the majority of Americans doesn't mean a damn thing, him being a self avowed socialist does. It's the same thing we see with Obamacare. Lets show it with pizza!

Mike: Let's get a pizza!
The Right: Pizzas are from Italy. Italy allied with the Germans in WWII. Pizza is for Nazis.
America: We're not Nazis.
Mike: Okay, what if we got a piece of round bread, and covered in tomato sauce, then mozerella cheese and then some toppings.
America: Sounds yummy. Can we put pineapples on it?
Mike: Sure.
America: And ham?
Mike: Oh Hell Yeah!
America: And can Uncle Sugar pay the tab, I'm kinda broke cus my allowance sucks.
Mike: That was the plan all along.
America: AWESOME. LETS GET THAT THING!
The Right: That's called a Pizza and only Nazi's eat pizza.
America: We're not Nazis!
Mike: *Face Palm*

Maybe he is a Socialist, but he is closer to being an Eisenhower Republican or more of a FDR Democrat than any Candidate running.

Don't vote for labels, vote for values.

I refer you above to why America doesn't like pizza.

It's not that your wrong, it's that you live in a happy dream world where Americans are rational.

But most Americans do like pizza. Many even like sushi, and that's a Japanese thing.

The problem is that Americans want and need more socialism. They just don't want to be called socialists. Whatever else you may say about Republicans they have done a fantastic job demonizing the word.

There are some Americans who want Socialism, as witness what Bernie is doing. There are even some Americans who need Socialism. But most Americans neither want it nor need it.

Bernie can draw large crowds in Liberal bastions, such as Portland and Madison, WI. However, Donald Trump drew more earlier this week in Mobile, AL at an address that was also televised. This is NOT meant to be an endorsement of The Donald.

There is no such animal as an American who doesn't want or need socialism. That's just a simple fact of life. There are those who recognize it, a minority but as we are seeing with Bernie they can be a noisy minority occasionally. Maybe if we get lucky noisy enough to get something done though I'm still not in the mood to hold my breath on that one. Then there are retards who think they are somehow magical and special and are ignorant to the facts. Once you start introducing them to it bit by bit they basically claim "this isn't socialism because the Constitution says it's okay!" or variants on this isn't socialism basically because they approve.

I am a Bernie supporter. I hope like hell he wins. I don't have that kind of faith in the American people however. I do think Trump is a disaster looking for a place to happen. Do however have enough faith in the American people that once the fun and games are over they'll make a more sober choice than that. I mean holy fucking shit.

Which makes you either a liar or uniformed. You can take your pick but you've never and could never survive a country without socialism. It's really that cut and dry.

What's an example of why I "need" Socialism.

Without knowing you personally it's difficult to tell.

Were you home schooled or private schooled? If not you owe socialism for you ability to read, write and do basic math.

Do you fly to work? If not you owe socialism for the roads you drive on.

You may carry a gun, be capable of performing medical procedures on yourself and others and putting out fires. However Emergency Services (even if you've never personally used them) are around and in the case of police by their very existence reduce the amount of crime.

The same goes for the military. Maybe you could stop the Chinese or the Russians from taking your land all by yourself. Maybe you have enough money to hire a mercenary army to protect yourself and your family. I doubt it though.

Maybe you own a farm and grow your own food, or have the time and expertise necessary to check all your food. And again maybe you are smart enough to make your own drugs and either have volunteers to test shit on or you're just so damn good you get everything right the first time. If you like most Americans lack these skills the FDA does you a lot of good forcing companies to test and retest and live up to certain standards before feeding you.

A healthy chunk of our electricity comes from government projects like the Hoover Dam. On the subject of dams do you drink and shower exclusively with rainwater you've gathered or that you buy at the store? Or does it come through pipes most of which belong to the city or county in which you reside?

Do you have a dungeon under your house? Cus I don't. The government currently locks up (an absurdly high) amount of people some of whom genuinely need to be off the streets. I suppose you could root me back to the above and you'd just shoot them if you ever saw them though.

And that's just the fucking surface. That's pretending that the internet upon which you are writing wasn't the result of DARPA.net, or that the satelites that carry your cell phone weren't, nearly without exception (I believe that SpaceX has put a few up now) launched by the government.

That's also to say nothing of the myriad of laws that would/do protect you if you say start a business or come up with a good idea.

And that's just on a personal level. If you own a business and not a school the government provided at least some of the education for your workers. I know I've never personally had to teach a co-worker or at my old company an employee how to read or write. I have to familiarize them with whatever lingo is specific to the field but explaining that LIFO means Last In First Out for how to empty a fridge is different from teaching them that E-X-I-T spells 'exit'. I teach them how to use the cash register but they all know enough basic math to get by. (If occasionally painfully slowly.)

Many of the examples, if not all, do not qualify as Socialism - that is, the means of production owned by the state.

Take defense. Of course we all need to be defended from foreign powers. A government defending its citizens is a fundamental purpose of government. Our government defended its citizens in the War of 1812. We're we a Socialist nation then? A nation defending its citizens and its sovereignty is not socialism.

And if all the things you enumerated are socialism we are already a socialist state. So why do the fuck we need Bernie. We are already there.

But thankfully Bernie doesn't have a rats ass chance in winning anyway.

First, no we don't all need to be defended from foreign powers. For the most part in history the average person (once the war is completed) isn't much effected by wars. New Boss, same bullshit. IF China invades they are after Bush's oil fields, not my 1995 Pontiac.

Yes, we were a socialist nation in 1812 and before that even, before we were even a country the government was doing things for us that we couldn't do for ourselves. You claiming it's a fundamental purpose (which isn't incorrect) doesn't make it any less socialist. It simply means that you approve of it.

Yes, we are already a socialist state and no sane person would ever try and go back. What we need Bernie for is to step up the game because we're falling behind and suffering because of it.

Now you're dead right that Bernie has no chance of winning. It doesn't matter how badly we need him, we're too stupid to follow.

Shit will continue to get worse until we realize our folly. Which may take a LONG time.

I guess with your definition of Socialism you are arguing every modern state that is heavily regulated, taxes its citizens (way too heavily) and provides social services is socialist. By the way all very bad things to me. We will never go back to limited government (unfortunately) but again I don't need or want socialism. Three cheers for capitalism.

By the way, interestingly, there are very good examples of deregulation that has created new capitalist enterprises. Perhaps the only thing Jimmy Carter did right was deregulate the beer industry. The result? Tons and tons of microbreweries - PRIVATELY - run.

Don't need or want the government providing my beer. Would probably taste like shit and cost too much anyway.

That wouldn't be at all inaccurate. There are of course states that don't do those things and they are without fail absolute shit holes because a functioning government a necessity in the modern world. Whether or not we are taxed too heavily is entirely a matter of opinion. I would say we are taxes (particularly our rich) irresponsibly low amounts of money. But yes they are all socialist.

Can I assume based on your statement that you as I said, fly, were educated privately so on and so forth? And that's just your direct blessings. And America never had a "limited" government in that sense. Nobody functioning country has in centuries because you cannot. Capitalism has never been tried and you think the income inequality is nuts now? Wait until the rich actually have that kind of control to completely destroy the little guy without even putting forth effort.

I'd love citation on the deregulation of the beer industry, that must make for interesting reading. Assuming it's true I can counter with California's electricity problems from deregulation. It's a balance. Nobody is talking about the government taking over McDonalds or Wal-Mart. (Though Wal-Mart might nto be the worst plan anybody ever came up with.)

I'm fairly certain the government wasn't providing your beer prior to Jimmy Carter. I'd be shocked to find out they were producing any beer let along the majority of it. And that's without wasting time to go look it up.

Cost too much? That's another myth. First there are tons of things the 'Free Market' simply refuses to do for a number of reasons generally ultimately stemming from they don't turn a profit. (This is neither good nor bad, its simply a fact.) If we look at Health Care costs the rest of the world manages to provide more and pay less. I would be fine if we paid the most and go the best outcome. I'd be less okay, but accepting if we paid next to nothing and got shitty outcomes. But when we pay the most (by a wide margin) and get shitty results. That's infuriating.

A lot of the other things its nearly impossible to break down in any truly meaningful way. Armed security guards cost a lot and only protect your personal property, cops cover a lot of turf and come out of your taxes. Same for roads and schools and all those other wonderful things.

This is of course why when Republicans are asked what programs do they intend to cut they suddenly become quiet. Because socialism is bad word, but police, fire and ambulance service are good things. Military protection is a good thing. Clean running water is a good thing. Hell most of us realize our education is necessary. It's hard convincing people we need to pour more money and effort into the system (which we desperately do) but the people calling to cut it are few and far between.
