Bernie!

Bernie would drag this country deeper into economic turmoil. He's a fucking socialist of the European ilk. We don't need it. He has no chance, thank God.

Maybe JEB! could do better than his brother? Or Cruz, or the Donald, or, gasp, Hillary?

Lots of people are happy to write Bernie off, but he is more right than wrong about the problems we face.

We desperately need a new injection of socialism into our nation. IT has helped us tremendously in the past and most of what we've lost in the meanwhile has been largely a matter of continually slashing funding for things that are important and wondering why they don't function like they used to. Basically you get what you pay for.

Bernie would be a damn good shot in the arm in that area but as we mostly all agree he has little chance. Though bit by bit his chances seem to be improving and a lot of us doubted Obama in 2008 and he pulled that out of his ass. Regardless of if it was because Hillary underestimated him (McCain or any Republican wasn't about to win after the disaster of Bush. So the Democratic Primaries were the real PResidential election) but it's not like she's gotten less arrogant over the interim. So maybe the country will get lucky. As it stands Obama will leave office with just slightly below 50% approval, a number that he's managed to hold most of his time in office. With the partisan bullshit in modern America Obama could have personally traveled to the Middle East brought back Osama for trial, brought peace to the region, been sainted by Jesus Christ and Ronald Reagan, parted the seas and ended world poverty and his approval rating would have gotten to 60% and stalled out so that is what it is.

Which is why he has an up hill battle. Hopefully the crazy right wing over reach will wake people up and turn them out to vote.

I believe the GOP would love to see Bernie nominated by the Dems for POTUS. It would be the biggest landslide in history, unless the GOP also shoots themselves in the foot.

I don't see any Repub candidate that could beat him in a debate. Bush might force a close election, because of name recognition, but Bernie would win if the turnout is large enough.

Doubtful if even possible.

ROFL. Not a chance in the universe. Maybe if by in history you mean history started sometime in the 20th century. (Which is fair, I don't really think we should discuss anything farther back than that as anything but examples.) People wanted Washington to be King. I'm fairly certain that level of landslide will never be surpassed.

Here's 1932 Bernie wouldn't do this badly either. So maybe it would be a historic landslide, but not even the worst in a century.

The reality is he'd probably lose to Push or Perry. He might have a hard time with Walker the rest of them? C'mon. Be serious for a second. The Dems could run Tupac's hologram and this guy and win ---> :nana:

The biggest landslide in the history of the US, not counting the uncontested elections of Washington, was in 1972, when Nixon defeated McGovern. Other big ones were FDR over Landon in 1936 and LBJ over Goldwater in 1964. In the Nixon and LBJ elections, the incumbent was unpopular but the challenger was seen as an extremist, and most Americans will not vote for extremists of either party.

I'm honestly not that big a history Buff. It was a combination of dumb luck and assumption that stumbled onto the second largest landslide on my very first try and felt no need to look farther. Good looking out. I'm curious if you knew those off the top of your head or had to look them up. I know people are filled with all sorts of odd trivia.

That's the thing, Bernie as "extreme" as he is. And I'm not claiming he has any chance of winning, isn't that far out there. FDR won four terms however and was just that damn good, I'd have to look into LBJ v Goldwater, that was decades before I was born I only know Goldwater by rep.

Here's the thing, once you knock out guys like Perry and Bush who are RINOs, or at least seem to be getting that treatment most of the Republicans running are far right extremists. So this isn't about an extremist vs a moderate. This is when you have to choose between two extremes with no way of splitting the difference.

Elections are not debating contests. Bernie has said things that will come back to haunt him, such as how he became nauseated at how anti-communist JFK was.

Well JFK and the whole establishment was "Anti-Commie" back then. Shit! Lyndon sent me to Nam to kill commies!

That was so long ago that it won't really be an issue. The problem Bernie has is that Americans are stupid. But that's a huge issue.

well, maybe JFK had one thing going for him (sure he was a junkie aka one of Sean's kind) but JFK realized that socialist are mentally fucking retarded.

We need a special camp to house these kinds of people (and SeanH)

Except JFK didn't realize that socialist was a bad idea. Do you have any clue the taxes in his day or the money poured into government? Or again how we're still getting paid for the investments he made in our country that you hate?

What the actual fuck? Of all the people to interupt one must seriously wonder by Bernie was chosen. Don't get me wrong, nobody up to and including Donald Dump should be interupted period, least of all at their own event but Bernie Sanders? Seriously.

I get that this is an important issue but battles have to be chosen better than this or the only thing accomplish is pissing off the people who should be on your side.

They were even going to get time - they just needed to let Bernie keep his schedule.

I hope that for the next event smarter Black Lives Matter advocates will reach out before the event to the organizers, get their time and show a united front with Bernie.

To get a better nuance of what's going on over this (and other current Black Lives Matter issues) you should follow and read Deray McKesson on Twitter. The sensationalism of this incident is getting more buzz over the background.

I tried looking at his feed online but saw mostly all Ferguson stuff. If have any insight that would be cool.

I just thought making a stink about “white supremacist liberalism” in Bernies face was counter productive. And the video of their actions and comments didn't do the cause any justice among people that are supporters. In fact it hurt it a lot I think.

I don't think anybody is really arguing against you on that point BND. Like I said battles must be chosen well. And in the case of black in particular and liberal movements in general getting a clear and concise message ideally that can fit on a bumper sticker is important. Say whatever you want about Conservatives the fuckers know how to brand really fucking well and how to boil something down to it's simplest possible concept.

Bernie Sanders Sends A Message To The Kochs By Drawing 28,000 To Rally

Shattering a day-old record, 28,000 backers of Bernie Sanders on Sunday filled all the seats and crowded into overflow areas outside the Moda Center sports arena where the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers play.

“Whoa. This is an unbelievable turnout,” Sanders said after he walked onto the stage. Consistently drawing bigger turnouts than any other presidential contender, Sanders told the packed Portland arena, “You’ve done it better than anyone else.” The arena seats were filled and thousands more listened to the speech on loudspeakers outside, according to Michael Lewellen, a Rose Quarter vice president. The total turnout far surpassed the 15,000 in Seattle just 24 hours earlier.

Bernie Sanders is accomplishing something that every candidate dreams of, but few accomplish. He is building a popular movement that could change the country. Popular grassroots movements sometimes win and take power, but most often their lasting legacy is changing the political discussion by forcing the establishment candidates to adopt their issues and positions.

Hear that Hilary? :D

So, about 1% of the population of metropolitan Portland cut to see the new kid on the block.

How many people do you think watched the Republican debates?
