“The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or some other right-wing demagogue who is going to try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman’s right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia,” Sanders told The Associated Press in an interview. “So I’m in to do what I can to make sure that the president is reelected.”
he's forgoing a third bid himself in order to protect and build on what the current administration has achieved so far. BY removing himself from the frame, and publicly supporting President Biden's bid whilst strongly stating the role he and other activists need to play in the future of the Democratic Party, he's doing a great service imo.“I think Joe Biden will be the Democratic nominee. And my job, and I think the progressive movement’s job, is to make certain that he stands up and fights for the working class of this country and does not take anything for granted.”
President Biden actually listens to his advisors, and his advisors are skilled, educated, and most often well-experienced. He clearly views the presidency as serving the people of America, protecting them from the threats that life under trump offers. If trump does get the nod, then dems need to be solidly behind one candidate in order to defeat trump with a more resounding vote than his record-breaking win before. Only when people vote loudly enough to produce strong showings in the senate and house seats can things progress in the direction most dems want to see.
