I saw "Below" last night, a WWII submarine-as-a-ghost-house movie. Scary, atmospheric, nicely done, nobody famous. I enjoyed it. Not a classic film, but not an ordinary film, either. Some very original, eerie moments (manta rays skimming the deep like floating ghouls, mirror relections a step behind your movements, an ass-backwards emergency surfacing, etc.). You'll want to see it on a large screen, though. Part of the fun is the attention to camera sweep and frame composition, which will be lost on a TV screen.

And, only in L.A., the movie finishes and a guy sitting next me says to his friend, "I liked the screenplay better".

Alas, we are the great unwashed masses. Comments such as those on artistic merit are lost on us. Now, if you want to discuss the shower scene in "Porky's", I think we might have common ground for discussion.

I hate full screen formatting. All my vids are in widescreen if I can get them.

Have you heard if there's a Tremors 4 in the works?

What about the Independence Day/American Godzilla people, anything new from them?

When is Bad Boys 2 (the one with Smith and Lawrence) coming out? It's been in production forever.

No idea on any of the above. I can't remember the last time I picked up a Variety. I stopped reading it the day I found my soul. Lotta good that's done me. I'll pick up one up today.

There's a chick in the flick, but no boobage. You'd think with a film called "Below" you'd think there'd at least be a quick panty shot.

Rasta, you're a boring person. Too bad you're the only one who doesn't know it.

I liked the grappling hook sequence. A ship overhead is looking for the sub, and throws out these grappling hooks to drag. I'd never seen than before. Cool.

You know, even a bad submarine movie is better than Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

They ran a trailer for "Chicago", the Fosse musical, now a film, coming out with three actors who, as far as I know, don't sing or dance: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, and Renée Zellweger. Looked good, though (even though the trailer really plays down that it's a musical).

Did it have the obligatory "We're going to go below the red part of the depth guage" scene? You know, the scene where they go down, down, down, well past the safe design depth that the sub can handle, until the bolts start exploding off various joint flanges at the speed of bullets fired from a rifle, narrowly missing everyone's head by inches?

It's not a real submarine movie if it didn't have that scene, you know.

No. It had better. An overabundance of hydrogen gas, and a flashlight that worked with a heating coil and...you get the idea.
