But when there is a crisis situation it takes far too long to come to a resolution as to what to do about it. The problem is, in a democracy everyone has a say in what needs to be done, but no one can agree. So in most cases if anything gets done at all, it's a day late and a dollar short.

And yet we managed to win WWII and the Cold War, so we must be capable of doing something right.

Actually the Soviets lost the Cold War rather that the West winning, but that's enough.

Congress and the president can act quickly when the need is there. For example, the Terry Schiavo case. I think they acted stupidly but the point is that they were fast. When there is no urgency there is a lot of debate and soul-searching and consulting with those who have bribed them.

Iran.

Hands Down, dude. Everything's blown to shit in Iraq, I don't have anything but a duck gun and a Carcano. Besides, I might need a hospital for something.

But Iraq has an incipient democracy! Incipient as all hell.

Ah, I don't even have the heart to joke anymore. The whole situation is such a tragic waste that there's nothing funny about it.

Is there anyone who still has any hope for Iraq? Any hope at all?
