Which government would you rather live under? The United States under GW Bush or Iran under M Ahmadinejad (gotta admit, he's a good-lookin fellow).

Extra credit: If you live in one presently and wish to live in the other, what is stopping you from emigrating? Only Americans and Iranians need apply for Xtra Credit.

Yup yup.
No dangly bits here.
Definitely America.

(BTW: LOL @ "What is it with you and these freakin' Manichean choices" Rob :))

My preference is my own island nation, a kind and just monarchy with a minimal government and a simple tax code, and clothing optional work places.

Female. American.

Although Salvor's place sounds most delicious.

Female, American.

Frankly, I don't know enough about the Iranian government to make an informed opinion. I will say I was an immigrant (in Holland) who went to school with several Iranian immigrants; that in and of itself makes me pause. I know from them that women do not have the same liberties in Iran as they have in Western society.

Maybe it's best to stick with the devil we know instead of the devil we don't?

P.S. Sal, how does one apply for a visa to your island nation? ;)

American. Male.

Although GW is not the best of leaders he is the best we have until election time. Then we will have to pick which inept politician we want for the next four years. IMHO.

The question strikes me as falling into the category of "Which would you rather be bitten by? A water moccasin? Or a rattlesnake?"

The common denominator for both is they are ugly, venomous snakes so who gives a fuck?

Iranian president is more intelligent than the American president, but he has no infrastructure.

I'll go with the infrastructure, even if it's being torn down at an insane rate by the less intelligent option.

This is why polls are unreliable, if you had the choice "none of the above" that would be the leader I bet.

I often dream about having my own island nation, but then I get turned off the idea because I don't want to be president/king. I'm too lazy for all that responsibility, even if it's a tiny island.

Considering how bound by ideology both their thinking processes are, I'm not sure 'intelligent' is the right term. In cases like this I prefer 'clever'.

Anyway my answer to the question is 'I'm moving to France.'

How about this one: Which would you rather live in, Iran or Iraq?

Dr_M:
My answer is NEITHER! However, if I have to choose between a democracy [hopefully] and a theocracy, I will take the democracy every time!

But Iran has great pistachio nuts. :D

Q. Why is it that everyone who lives in a democracy always bitches about how useless their government is?

A. Because they can.

It also has really great movies, (none of which get released there, for obvious reasons).

You can't sneak anyone into the drive-in on a camel?

Did you know that the most numerous foreign nationals resident in the UK are French?

And that the most numerous foreign nationals resident in France are English?

Perhaps the grass on the other side of the fence is greener.

Our twin French town has two cricket teams. We have three boules teams.

We both make money out of European institutions by working together...

They're going to ask us if we'll give them back that Big Lady in the Bay. She's getting kind of lonely...
