Being SR71

There seems to be so much hatred of this guy. I don't know, I don't see it, maybe I'm anal myself. Then again I really don't know him... does anybody? He seems to be a great asset when one has questions, answered by the Chicago manual. Still don't know what the Chicago style manual is or looks like myself.

Let's put ourselves in his shoes, or at the very least give him credit for what he's done in helping writers like me. I recall atlest one other person saying "let Sr71 look it up". And that's because we trust his judgment!

Look, I know I'll be crossed off several Christmas card lists, what the hell, I get too many anyway.

Maybe because I'm from a military background I can understand and respect what SR represents. Life is short, be nice. Be accepting.

Okay, I've said my piece. Love me or hate me.

Chicago Manual of Style. Check it out online. It's very informative.

He's always been helpful to me.

Exactly the point. He's been "Johnny on the spot" for me several times. We've also crossed swords but I can live with that. I'm sure LAdyC will see this and it will lock her jaw.

ML, I think we both better be prepared to grab our ankles and take the punishment <g>

Maybe.

I don't hate him, I despise him. Whatever anyone has done he has done more and better.

He has worked for the CIA; he flew Blackbird spy planes (though the USAF don't appear to know that). He has a Masters degree in editing. He has a Masters degree in Writing. When asked, he claims he speaks Japanese. He boasts of more stories on Lit than anyone else (but he didn't check E.Z.Riter). He corrects the advice anyone offers.

He posts arrogant comments like I wouldn't be surprised if I was the most qualified one posting to this thread to comment on that. (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=610038) and It would be hard for Cloudy (or anyone else) to know less about Native Americans (other than the tribes of Virginia, I guess (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=515029) and There just isn't much reason to follow your posts, Amicus. You make false assertions--often utterly ridiculous ones--and then run from there. (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=609533), and This is supposedly an erotic stories site. I spend a lot of time contributing product to it. I have no idea why you are on this site--unless it's because you've been kicked off of all the other sites you moaned and groaned on. You certainly should be relegated to the General Board (or better, the trash bin) here. (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=609448), and Oh, I have no trouble juggling activities and producing a lot. I've already written an erotic story today, and made progress on reviewing the manuscript of another book for eXcessica, and edited several thousand words for a mainstream publisher (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?p=28428953#post28428953), and so many others.

And that is why I put him on [IGNORE].

... Maybe because I'm from a military background I can understand and respect what SR represents. ...
I also have served my time for my Queen and Country, and that contributes to why I think he is, in UK military parlance "all piss and wind".

... Love me or hate me.
Oh, definitely the former, perhaps because you are so patently straightforward. If you know, you tell; if you don't know, you admit it.

He's always been perfectly nice and very helpful to me on a number of occasions. I'm quite fond of him.

People don't like him because he doesn't hesitate to call them on their bullshit. *shrugs* I've no problem with that at all.

Comment removed to protect the innocent.

Lets just say that anyone is entitled to "worship' the crap out of him, but for me, he's full of it (crap) and it's the reason why he's on my ignore list.

AS, ML, I love you both plenty, who you like or associate with is none of my business, so you have no worry about me kicking you out.

AS: Just don't emulate him so much, it's making my backtooth hurt.

It's perhaps natural that snoopercharmbrights and Lady Cibelle would take the positions they so, as SR71 has skewered them justifiably in the past.

That two posters who have him on ignore think that they can pass judgment on his contribution to answering questions on editing pretty much tells you what their counsel is worth. The first is as full of herself on responding to questions on editing here as she claims SR71 is and I don't believe I've ever seen the latter give any editing advice at all here.

And it takes a virgin poster to pass judgement on things that he/she doesn't know.

Glad to see that whateverhisnameis as a fanclub.:D

AMEN!

I had often wondered why an "ignore" switch was even needed, but I have long since learned.

What does posting have to do with it? I've been reading here for two years, and I've gotten a whole heck of a lot more help from reading SR71 than from reading you.

And I see another one has weighed in on devining the quality of someone's advice on the basis of having him on ignore.

Broke up your little corner on the market on giving editorial advice here, did SR7? No wonder you all have your knickers in a bunch. lol.

Hmmm...

I suppose what most people find to be annoying traits are what I think makes life interesting. There are so many people who fling poo at each other here that I believe they actually enjoy it.

For example, the thread of the "Nameless One" only serves the purpose for having an all out poo fight. If I want to read about a bunch of people just trying to verbally (or writterly...is that a word?) bash each other for therapy, I'll go there. Sometimes we say what we WISH we could say to people all day on this forum because we know we won't get fired, we won't get sued, we won't be sleeping alone.

Have you ever considered that the odd personality quirks so many people hate are EXACTLY what makes this place so cool?

What YOU (and by YOU I mean the plural though perhaps I should use the plural WE) choose to involve yourself in is up to you. Ignore is good if you can't resist the urge to reply, but really it's YOUR choice to read what you read. I think the same thing applies to SR or anyone you find to be irritating.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm with ML and AS and TK. He's helped me out a few times and for that I'm grateful. I don't have a problem with him, even though I've bashed and been bashed... much to my chargrin. Perhaps it's a glass half-empty and half-full thing. Do you choose to see the good in people or the bad?

Moral of the story... I control my own mouse. I control what I read. I control how I will respond and what is worthy of response. It's amazing how powerful silence can be.

The Truth, and Nothing But...

What inspired this thread was boredom and the lingering thought of that movie "Being John Malkovich". I began to wonder whose head I'd like to get into, and SR71 came to mind.

You can't be on Lit very long before you run into a thread mentioning him.

So to cut to the chase, I prefer to form opinions of people through personal experience, not the experience of others. I don't mean to invalidate other peoples experiences or their opinions, but I expect them to respect mine, and that seems to have been the case, so thanks to all.

We've had different experiences and formed, in some cases, differing opinions for whatever reasons, and that's okay my me. But I just wanted to see where everyone else stood. It's been revealing to say the least.

I know I'm a hopeless idealist and I'd like for us all to interact in positive ways since our lives are far too short as it is. This is a close community as I see it and it would be much nicer if we could all be friendly. But maybe that's asking for too much, but that was my aim.

Wouldn't be the first time I missed.

I Am Lion, Hear Me Roar!

Wow! I've been so pacifist my entire life and I have finally taken a stand!

Maybe I'm tired of eating shit and am tired of people telling me what to think! I have found my own voice!

My personal opinion is that he is ok. Sometimes he presents an opinion that I agree with. He says some things that I dissagree with so I disagree with him and get on with my life.

I generally get along with most people and there are only a couple here on lit that I firmly dislike.

I have found for the most part as long as I am polite in my disagreements that he is polite back. On one memorable occasion we disagreed on a thread and once I had gone into detail on my arguement and got a "hmmm I hadn't thought about it that way" response.

Every once and a while even the people that I dislike come up with an idea or comment that makes me go 'hmmmm'. This is why I don't put people on ignore (or haven't yet, you never know).

Everyone puts their own slant on things and there are so many personalities on this site that there are bound to be ruffled feathers and poo throwing matches occasionally. Just be prepared to duck occasionally!!:D

As a victim of the ignore button myself, I don't use it on others. I find the 'larger than life' personalities around here entertaining, and informative. If I can learn something by wading through the poo pile, it's worth it to me. Of course, there are several around here who's poo isn't worth wading through, but SR isn't one of them.

I also find it interesting that this very thread has examples of the type of behavior SR has been slammed for, indicating to me that it just comes with the territory, not the specific poster.

I think he's hilarious. I don't hate him. I've just got too much troll in me to not take shots at him, he's just so full of himself.

I can see how he would be a great deal of help to a total n00b in the writing world.

To those of us who have been writing for a while, who know what we are doing, he is really rather ridiculous.

His bombast just reaches such a high pitch, I regularly find myself wanting to remind him that he writes online porn. I've taken creative writing classes taught by booker prize winning authors who took themselves less seriously than that guy.

You should read his advice but take him with a grain of salt.

Funny, that's pretty much what I've thought of Shwenn's posts. Haven't felt inadequate or jealous enough to go out of my way to to make fun of him on the forum, though. Just decided Shwenn was full of himself and left it at that.

Thinks this brings us back to much of what Elianna included in her posting.

But you haven't really "left it at that" anymore, now, have you?

That is fine. Bring it!

I wouldn't act this way if I couldn't handle myself in the ring.

I don't actually think I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. Hell, I'll be the first to tell you to take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I totally understand why you would react the way you do to my posts.

It's called self-awareness.

Are you aware of how suspicious it is that you are defending this guy so vehemently being so new here? Are you aware of that?

I agree with you. Shwenn is a newbie with only a few stories posted here. I checked his ratings (almost all under 3.88) after I read this comment:

Shwenn said:

So his work compares to Sr's e-book standings how?
