It's not all "snot".I love the snotsicle picture, too.
If I could grow one, I would when climbing in the cold. It's not all "snot".
But it's a damn good reason for having a beard.

You'll have to settle for panties......
Even that thin little pair was really warm. I was surprised.
A silkweight polypro balaclava is good enough for most face protection when one is burning some calories. The thick stuff is needed for if it's windy.
Yup. I have one and I love it. I'm not a fan of having my mouth covered usually, because the condensation freezes.
The beard keeps it off the skin.
Back to that again...
How insensitive of me...
Lol. I'm used to it.
:eyeroll:
I'm used to that, too.
That's too bad.
All the girls roll their eyes at me.
Hey, while we're shooting the shit, what are the minimum long arm and pistol calibers you'd trust for anti-bear guns?
My grandfather killed a huge brown bear with a .25-35 once. He had to reload.
But, for something coming at me, my preference is the 3" mag 12 gauge with Brenneke Black Magic slugs. I bought my .338 WM before going deer hunting on Admiralty Island. No one needs a .338WM for blacktailed deer, but I felt a lot more comfortable in the woods with the .338.. My preference is to carry a single long weapon and no handgun when hunting.
When backpacking alone, I've carried a .357 mag revolver, but I've always figured it to be inadequate for a griz. A .44 Mag is the min in my mind, but I've only had one, and gave it away to one of the kids who hikes alone.
Personally, I'd not trust any handgun for bear protection. I'm much more comfy with a longer weapon.
You told me about Grandpa's bear. Not my interest...
So .44 or .45 LC would be enough, issues of aiming under stress aside?
Enough?
A big maybe. All the pros (guides, f&g, etc) carry long guns.
Good to know. Tucking the info away for future expeditions. Lady P has been talking about Svalbard again. Jenkins' article in the latest Outside about Amundsen didn't exactly quench the fire...
Shit, those are big bears......and they aren't afraid of anything.......but they don't like electric fences.....
Yeah. And I doubt somehow that the Norwegian government is a big fan of Americans bringing their own guns with them.
They are in charge of the Peace Prize.
Then maybe I should seduce their queen while I'm there.
