"Because it's there."

First climbing injury -
I've buggered my baby toe. It's all out of whack and there'sw a huge purple swelling on one side and below it.

*proud*

This close to buying some gear -shoes, I think.

Check out Outside Magazine this month...an interesting article (I have yet to read) about a mountaineer's son climbing Everest, I think (or some 8000m peak) to exorcise the ghost of his father.
Also an article on Tyler Hamlton returning to continental cycling after a two year drug ban.
John Harlin III is climbing the Eiger, where his dad died establishing a new route. It's a good article. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Sad loss of the father. :(

I was chatting with a friend about the Eiger. Heinrich Harrer, Peter Aufschnaiter, and the expedition group began climbing Nanga Parbat, near the plateau of Eiger, after escaping Austrian dictatorship and fleeing to India. Then treked to Tibet.

I think I am wording it right. I am on a library trek this weekend.

Pick up the March issue of Backpacker magazine, also. It's the 2007 gear guide...*drool*.

I have to start buying a little gear for an upcoming river trip. Mostly clothes type gear. Nothing too "fun".

I did not see a notice in this thread that Bradford Washburn had passed away in January. 96 years old and tough as nails. One hell of a man, mountaineer and photographer!

Check out some of his photography at link
He was an amazing guy, for sure. Man, did he love Denali, too. Every few years, he would release a new route idea on the mountain and get all the heavy hitters salivating. Last one I remember was in Outside sometime maybe in the nineties.

Seven Years In Tibet.

I haven't read it or seen the movie. I know atmas has.

I'd ask you to kiss better, but Herself might have an issue with that.

I'm not allowed to climb until Monday *pouts*

Herself would certainly not mind me kissing the little toe of another woman, especially for such a good reason.

Yup, injuries suck that way.

Ah... Now you know what friend I was chatting with. *wink*

I saw the movie, but have heard from various sources that the book is a good read.

I've heard that also.

You know, for all my inerest in climbing, I've honestly read very few of the books. For some reason, they generally don't excite me so much.

That is probably because you do it, physically. I don't read much on surfing either. Weird, eh?

*shivers* I have very sensitive toes - I can not be responsible for my behaviour when they are..anyways.

Took a movement class last week.

All of a sudden things are kicking in! Looks like I need to get shoes, the rentals are the cause of my beleagured baby toe. *whaaaa*

After three weeks of *aaaauuugggh* crappy climbing that didn't feel good, I've stomped over that plateau and am working on a new one.

I have a new project - my last one is now part of my warmup. I have also graduated to a real grown-up harness -the movement teacher was a mean bastard that wouldn't let me wear the one I had been wearing. I hate him very very much! And thank him for pushing me beyond my fear.

Having kind of a hard time with him - he's such a mean cruel man who makes me work very hard and my toes hurt - I hate him, hate him, hate him! But then I improve so that I look less like a disabled monkey on crackand more like a spider and ohhhhhh....*blush* he IS very *ooohhhhh* let's just say that one wants to impress him as he is so - "impressive"..

I am such a silly little thing sometimes.

*wiggles* My toes hurt, Pergy..
