There are all sorts of silly stories about stuff that happens on portaledges. I don't imagine anyone gets a lot of really quality sleep on one.
And consider the very practical matter of body waste disposal.

I like "bouldering rooms" in climbing gyms because while some argument can be made that climbing in a gym is only at best a dim reflection of climbing a rock, the workout achieved through bouldering is very pertinent to outdoor rock climbing even if the skills developed are perhaps not as pertinent.

"Poop tubes." Not my idea of fun at all.

I agree about gym bouldering. In fact, I've been thinking about adding it to my schoolday.

*sigh* I remember doing thta.

Tho at the end of the day one would generally be wearing much less clothing.

It's all about the layers. :)
Beautiful, Thor.

Lovely snow too.. *grin*

The pit zips were open, the ear flaps were flapping, and the shell was open at the neck. Today, out on the skate skis, I was just wore black tights and an ultra light jacket. Made me "feel" like i was fast. It's soooo nice to live in a ski friendly burg.

Shut up, dammit. I miss being able to ski out my door so bad I can taste it.

And being able to climb several pitches after work in the summer because ther was great multi-pitch granite ten minutes from my house.

And being able to climb several thousand feet of classic alpine ice and snow on a given day, still having time afterwards to replace the calories burned with great poutine at a local watering hole.

Easily accessable "good granite" is something of a novelty here in the Anchorage area, and I'm not aware of a local watering hole that has poutine on the menu. It's not all roses. But the compromise, is easy.

You might be interested in this article from our local rag about a high school classmate of my uncle: http://www.adn.com/outdoors/craig_medred/story/8545159p-8437963c.html

If you go back to the photo with the cell phone in it, Flat-Top is the first little peak coming up the valley on the right hand side of the photo.

That's great. NH has a similar ethos...I remember some guys who skied 365 days in Tuckerman Ravine. People familiar with Mt Washington will wonder how, since there are no glaciers. They decided that if they could get in three linked turns, it counted.

I like this bit, related to my opening post here:

But he doesn't immediately strike you as the sort of aerobic animal you'd expect to see going up and down Flattop every day.

But he does.

Why? For the simple reason that it is there.

Posts from the Gym

Grrr - missed my project on Monday. For some reason I was getting all girly and having little panic attacks. (afraid of heights) Didn't stop me from going back up, just set me back a few (1/2 dozen) times.

Still, as per instructed, I finished off my night on a positive note. The third time I went after my project I didn't make it to the top (again!) but it was noted that at least the bottom half is looking smoother. Finished off the night with my happy little 5.6 - on that one I am going up and down so fast it's becoming an aerobic exercise. The Rockman has promised me a new run, still a 5'6, but a "little harder at the top". He also thinks it's high time I learned how to use a "grown-up" belaying device, instead of the gris gris.

I commited to a ten shot pass, if I finish it in less than 6 weeks I will reward myself with some gear.

Going to belay the youngun tonight, and will hit the wall myself.

The bustier I bought at Christmas is looking ever so much nicer - losing the little muffin tops under the shoulderblades and back musculature is starting to peek out. I rawk!!!

P.S. pit flaps - very sexy!! *grin*

Nice work. Hang in there...we all have off days.

Hmmm. Bustier pics would improve this thread immeasurably.

*blush* I'll see what I can do. Maybe take a couple of pics when I sing tonight - it's one of those "going out" ones - covers all the important bits.

Also noticing that my arms don't seem to want to fall off at the end of the night anymore.

I'm committed now - even dreamed about it the other night.

I haven't had a climbing dream in ages. I envy you your lack of experience; you get to experience it all for the first time. Those were such heady days.

Bustier pics?

A very good idea!

you two are the sweetest. I live in Vancouver - got all the smoked stuff I need. Actually had a nice piece of BBQ sockeye tonight. Probably frozen, but pretty sure it was wild.

And since most everyone here has seen all sorts of my bits, it is no problem shoing me clothed..as soon as I can, gentlemen.
