I'm loving the pics, Thor. That one at the top of the page was an immediate rightclick.
Is that Aaron Ralston with the balls and prosthesis?
Ralston was a dope. He made a rookie error and lost an arm and damn near his life as a result. He's managed to parlay it into a sort of fame, kinda like Bernie Dahl did.
You guys are killing me. Stop it. I read Ralston's goddamn book. It was one of the most disturbing things I ever read. Now I'm going to have nightmares. Thanks a lot.
I've climbed Mt. Washington many times but will never forget the first time when I encountered a warning sign about a mile in from the trailhead which read something along the lines of, "300 people have died climbing this mountain from a variety of causes but mainly exposure or stupidity." 'twas a tad sobering.
Over the last couple of days, any appetite I may have had for climbing has been destroyed by all these images.

Christine is attempting to be the first woman to scale Denali in "winter". Artur, her climbing partner has done it before.
Winter McKinley Expedition update: The team woke to a chilly –46 degree temperatures this morning with minimal wind. Yesterday was exhausting and a lot of hard work. However, the team was able to make a snow cave just below the last big slope on Windy Corner. Today, if all goes well, the team may carry supplies up to 13,500 feet.

God damn. Easy climbing over heart-stopping exposure. Gah! It's such a mental game.http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lhgr6iwkS31qhcnz9o1_400.jpg

Christine and Artur are off the mountain. They are in good health, albeit a bit battered by the winds.

Anyone with a brain is terrified on rappel. It's the one time you have to rely 100% on the gear alone.
