"Because it's there."

I bet yours are funnier than mine. One of these days, I have to post a series of pics from that expedition. I could do a sort of pictorial story of a mountaineering trip. Maybe some folks here would be interested.

Mine are secondhand.... :(

The photos would be cool. I've prolly seem some of them.

brilliant idea!
Through the course of my work I met a guy last week that had recently climbed Mt Blanc. He made it sound like a stroll in the park....

I had a guy in my office last spring who had just summited Everest. He said the trip off the summit was the most dangerous due to the line of people on their way up.

Yes, I've also read/heard that when the time is right it becomes an expressway of sorts.

Thanks perg, they are beautiful.

My pleasure.

Maybe next week some time, and yeah, many of them are already right here in this thread, I would think.

He was either a badass or French. Or both.

Some of the most crowded and therefore dangerous real estate in the world, for about ten days every year.

I'm thinking that a law should be passed so that all new residents have to say in apartment buildings downtown.....like a hive....
Our house has been shaken by blasts and noise has traveled through the bedrock. They have been building McMansions on land that was to be conserved forever. Now we are being threatened with a new road to make thses new owners happy. No one was allowed to vote on the decsion for this land to be sold to developers. Grrrrrr

The mcmansions spoil my view up the hill......

I am happy that the thick stands of trees hide them from me and that they are on the other side of the hill. Right now our road is a horror and you need four wheel drive. We like it like that. The new road will bring traffic and vehicles.

Girls on Ice

"Girls on Ice is a unique eleven-day leadership program for teenage girls that combines leadership, mountaineering and science. The program takes place July 28-August 7, 2008 and is free to girls who qualify via a merit-based application process. It is open to girls 15-18 years old who have shown a keen interest in science and the outdoors. Nine young women will be selected and the ideal candidate will be an inquisitive, adventurous girl who would like to learn more about scientific inquiry, research, careers in science and the Northwest environment. It is the only program in the nation that combines leadership, scientific inquiry and mountaineering for teenage girls. It provides a rare opportunity for young women to feel at home in the wilderness while observing the natural world through the unique lens of science under the guidance of professional female glaciologists and mountaineers."

This looks like a lot of fun. If you know a girl who might be interested, have her check out this link.

This would be perfect for my niece, though she's a bit younger than the range.
