"Because it's there."

You've got more actual expeditions under your belt (or should I say harness and crampons..) and some pretty darn cool ones, at that.
Kenya was better than Kili for scenery and was much more of a challenge. I don't think there are any routes on Kili where you climb - none that I saw, anyway. Kenya was technically challanging - and my first experience with altitude. Kili was just all about putting one foot in front of the other and repeat for 5 days - your endurance and motivation took big hits.

I know - it's sad, isn't it ? This year I'll add to my pile of gear and get me some Ice tools. And cover myself with as much gore-tex as I can find, of course. Sexy, huh ?

Specifically the bet involved whether the words "stings like the dickens" could be used to describe being in any way damaged by crampons.

Although I'm sorry you kicked yourself.

Then you should win, because that is one possible descriptor.

That's like saying, "I'm sorry you poked you eye out with that chopstick." Honestly, no pity is deserved by such a moronic and clumsy thing.

If I have more expeditions, it can only be one more...since I've been on a grand total of two.

I thought you said you were planning to go to K/K. That's awesome. Where are the pictures?

Okay...let's stop trying to out-polite each other by proving the other is the greater climber, or whatever this dance is called.

Yeah, Gore-Tex is the sexiest shit on the planet. Especially after you beat it up a bit and patch it with duct tape.

Excellent.

...

And I'll have you know you're not making it easy for me to NOT lake light of the incident in some rude and amusing fashion.
*must... hold... on...*
I mean things like this usually beg at least a mild derision.
*fastens piton into the cliffs of courtesy*
And I'm too fond of you to just take a pot-shot regardless of how much you may think you deserve it.

You're such a gentle soul. Truth is, almost anyone who's ever worn crampons has at least torn a hole in their pants leg with them. They're inconvenient things. Like swin fins. Only useful in a very specialized situation.

Now that, I can relate to.

And not so gentle, as just.
*nod*

I like to think so.

But the democracy of the GB would seem to contradict me often.

But back to the topic.

I've often seen rock-climbers up at Taylor's Falls (William O'Brien State Park). It's fun to picnic on the cliffs and crags and watch them do less than fortunate things.

So far nobody has been seriously injured during any of my sporadic vigils, but the language gets amusing sometimes.

So I'll ask the obvious question:
Why not hang-gliding instead?

They're different sports; that's sort of like asking a figure skater why he doesn't play hockey. I've always wanted to try hang gliding. Still intend to one of these days.

Understood.

I always thought it only a difference of being able to let go of one's need to hold onto a rock. ;)

I think the appeal of climbing is that it's challenging on a lot of specific physical levels. Hang gliding seems more like...I don't know...learning to fly, I guess; a skillset, but not a physical challenge.

- Ha ha - agreed!
K/K were spectacular, I'd love to show the pics, but I haven't figured out how to attach them. I keep getting a message saying that my files are too large. Any ideas ?

Gore-Tex and duct tape ...you know how to talk dirty to me !

Hangliding - now that sounds like fun...

I realized that I've been assuming you're male...

Create an account on www.photobucket.com and upload them there, then copy the "img" tag it gives you under each pic and paste it here; that way the pic itself shows, rather than a link people have to click on.

ummmm....I just don't know how to feel about that...May I assure you that no one who has ever seen me in person has even come close to making that mistake ? I'll forgive you, just don't let it happen again.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the photobucket thing.

I can understand that.

But (and I have to say this, the right people will know why)...

Rock-climbing, Peregrinator.

Rock-climbing.

Yeah, I don't know why I did. Maybe it's because you chose "biner" as your nick, which kinda feels boyish. I apologise. It might also help if you were to put a little info in your profile.

Cat's out of the bag now, though, isn't it? I assume one of those smiling people is you?

Gorgeous pics, thanks! What are you apologizing for?

Eh? Okay.

Oh, not for many many years. Pod People was my favorite episode. I don't know the reference.
I don't remember the name of the movie...

But it had a lot of rock-climbing in it.

And not the kind that you'd like, just a lot of actors giving each other a leg-up onto higher set-pieces.

Over and over and over and over and over again.

...

Rock-climbing.

I didn't realize that the pics would come out huge like that. For some reason I thought they would be small, thumbnail-sized things. Took the one from the top of Kili out to preserve anonymity of the innocent.

"Biner" is boyish, eh ? I just like the word. It makes me happy.
Maybe "biner-ette" ? I think a 'biner is a femine object.

I need to get ahold of that one somehow.

You could resize them with photo software, but why? I like them big like that.

Maybe a 'biner is a feminine object. I never really thought about it. Perhaps we should make a poll.
