because im anal about this.....fyi

Its has only got an apostophe

when it's a contraction. Its is not a possessive form any more than his or hers is. It was hi's turn? Her's was the prettiest smile?

Good luck, justgem, I hope you don't get ulcers. The emphasis on spoken over written English, and the use of terms such as "Lite" by marketing trolls, have doomed the rule-aware to lead a very stressful existence.

You're going to put in your two cents about you're and your, ain't ya?

I'm ok with spelling - for the most part.

It's those damn commas that get me mixed up.

Always putting those things in the wrong place.....oh yeah, and the dot, dot, dot stuff.

Wanna know what sticks out for me?

Capitalization.

Yeah, yeah, and cocks and stuff too.

No one here ever thought of that.

Thanks.

That was surprisingly polite. Only someone who knew your posts well would have caught the sarcasm.

this drives me nuts.... i do use shorthand when typing here and in chat rooms and i dont know y this sticks out at me so much but it does....so, fyi:

to = going to, or to do etc.....

two = the number

too = as well as...also

there = something is there, its over there.....

their = belonging to, it is their car

they're = they're coming over, they're happy

the biggest one that is used over and over is to and too....

*huffs and gets down from the soapbox feeling she has served mankind.*

no offense,

gem

Thank God we have a new grammar and spelling sherriff at Lit. I was getting pretty nervous.

What are you talking about lukky? You don't use an apostrophe on a pronoun, but you do with a noun and that's posessive. For instance, you don't say it's her's, but you do say it's Lukky's.

Maybe I'm not following you, but what you said seems wrong.

I am the worst at that one!! To ' or not to ' ?!?

I just avoid it all together!

Bet you get jacked when someone uses the wrong side of the toilet paper too.

What wrong side? Exactly.

All I can say is let the idiots be idiots, get upset about something that matters, don't sweat the small stuff. There are too many small things to get upset about, it isn't worth your time.

Put more marshmallows in your cocoa, that might help.

I prefer to think they would have to be incredibly sheltered or egotistical to think I was being serious. :)

If it's meaning "it is", you use an apostrophe before the "s". If it's used as a pronoun - ie: (regarding a book) "its' pages", you use it afterwards.

God, now I'm confused and I think that's totally wrong.

Of course you say "It's hers" if it IS hers. You don't say "The troll took it's own life."

Damn, I was HOPING people understood there's never a 'postrophe in her's. Another illusion shattered.

Well some haven't had the pleasure of encountering you as often.

If there's a joke in there I take full responsibility for not getting it.

OMG...I get it!! :D

Thanks again Lukky! I think I owe you for a few now!!

Just let it slide off your back gem. You'll find this board to be very sarcastic at times - they just can't help themselves. ;)

This has been done before, to no avail.

You're right, that's wrong. ;)

"It is" would be "it's" with apostrohe

"its" possessive has no apostrophe at all. Your example should be "its pages."
