Depends on the person. I have a lighter complexion. So, dark facial hair evens it out a bit. I think a huge key to the beard is good grooming. If you don't keep the hair short, it makes your face look chubby, no matter how fit you are. If kept well, it also synthesizes a jaw line which is otherwise hidden.
