In the Sorry/Political/Asses thread, some posters were discussing books about Islam and I thought of this one. I know some of the authors here don't see much value in their work, and I won't pretend that everything posted at Lit is destined to become a classic like "Lolita;" but I thought of you when I was posting amazon's description of this book. Lit is important, and what you do is important, even if you only write "strokers" and don't aspire to more.
The book "Reading Lolita in Tehran," a just-published work of non-fiction by a former college professor in Iran, who held secret reading groups for female students in her home. This is the excerpt that I wanted to share with my favorite pornsters:
"There, in that living room, we rediscovered that we were also living, breathing human beings; and no matter how repressive the state became, no matter how intimidated and frightened we were, like Lolita we tried to escape and to create our own little pockets of freedom."
Keep writing. I'll keep reading.
It's our duty.
