Are you?

Do people consider you cool? Do you think you're cool?

And what does it mean, anyway?

"cool" can only be defined by someone under thirty, although someone over thirty may very well be cool.

But only inadvertently. Anyone over thirty who attempts to be cool--isn't.

I resemble that remark. IMHO 'cool' bears a relationship to the all but forgotten words 'suave' or 'debonair', just a tad more raucous. ;) 'Cool' is a state of mind anyway. You can let others define you as 'cool', but if you think of yourself as 'cool', then that's all that really matters. They'll see it soon enough.

I was once accused of being cool, way back when I was in High School and was the only one riding a motorcycle.

Then an upper classman bought himself a much larger bike and piled it into a tree at high speed. Then I was accused of being a bit crazy.

Then the winter came and I was still riding even in the snow and cold. I was identified as being insane and maybe even a touch suicidal.

So what is cool anyways? I have never figured that one out.

I have always been uncool. Might as well never change that. Best keep it steady, y'know?

As a performing musician, I am allowed to retain my coolness beyond the age of 30. In spite of that advantage, I still manage to be uncool most of the time.

This afternoon I walked into a coffee shop where a musician friend was performing. He announced my name - instant cool. As I placed my coffee cup on the little round table and sat down, I jostled the table and spilled coffee all over the place - uncool.

Being cool isn't easy.

The real puzzler is not age nor career; but how some people can be so cool one day and then not the next. What the hell is that about? I assume we've all been cool at one time or another, but then it disappears into the ether like some cloud that went too far into the desert. I guess, cool is a fragile creature - so we should enjoy her while she's around. :)

Someone under thirty said to me: Whatever you are, you are 237% cooler, if you own it. A dork who flies their dork flag proudly, is as cool anything.

I like that! I agree. Now where do I get a flag that has the word cool with a circle around it and a line through it?

It goes back a long way.
Suave or even debonair do not equal cool, for they are an old demonstrable sign of what used to be 'smartness' and 'polite' at a time when it was customary to be so.

To be cool, is to be on an even keel all the time.
The cool person has a apt quip or reply to almost anything, and their brains to be well ahead of the game before anyone else knows there IS a game.
To be cool is to be aware of current trends in fashion but be just on the conservative side of them.
The cool person never looses his/here temper in a violent manner.
The cool person would never go mad on a dance floor or be too demonstrative.
The cool person would have a nice car, but not flaunt it all the time.

Some of my cadets think I'm cool. Others know I'm not.
