This is just an idea that I had and I am sure that somewhere in these threads it has already been done. What I was hoping to do was create a list of reccomended reading on the bdsm lifestyle. Please post the book as well as the author and if you would so much oblidge us please post a little about the book. (i.e. the topic, if it is fiction/nonfiction, and maybe the experience level as such if it is helpful only to a beginner or if it is helpful to a long term player).

Okay I will start because there is a book I am reading right now that is complete fiction but is really good. The Marketplace series by Laura Antoniou is a really good read. It's good enough that I have pondered the idea of making an SRP based loosely on the series.

All are welcomed to post.

Good idea!! i have greatly enjoyed all 4 of her books in "The Marketplace" series and eagerly awaiting the fifth. These books would have to to top (no pun intended!! okay..maybe a little pun) my recommended BDSM reading must-haves.

Gift recommendations...

I just bought my wife The Marketplace on the recommendation of the clerk at my local 'adult toy' store...my wife has shown some interest in BDSM fantasies, and enjoyed the Sleeping Beauty series and Exit to Eden by Anne Rice. Are there any other books that someone would recommend as possible follow-up gifts?

Thanx,

Roman

Eb is right, but what is the harm in reposting?

Some of the books I have here at my desk are:

Erotic Bondage Handbook by Jay Wiseman
great tips on rope tying

More Totally Herotica edited by Marcy Sheiner
A collection of some good, some bad erotica

Come Hither A Common Sense Guide to Kinky Sex
by Gloria Brame
A good basic book you could have mom read if you wanted to explain your lifestyle

The Mistress Manual the good girls guide to dominance
by Mistress Lorelei
One of the first books I bought. We used it to discuss what we both wanted and expected.

The Ultimate Guide to Strap-On Sex by Karlyn Lotney
a pansexual guide
Read it P.B. You might find you have an interest that Eb can satisfy.

Different Loving by Gloria & William Brame
Almost too much info for the beginner; you won't know where to start

Screw The Roses, Send Me the Thorns by Phillip Miller & Molly Devon
A great basic book, lots of info.

A celebration of femininity by Joseph Corre & Serena Rees
In the into it says: This book is about many things; history, politics, culture and sexuality.
Some good retro pics

Naked Men Pioneering Male Nudes by David Leddick
Great cover but a disappointment to me because it features mostly thin gay men. Nothing against gay guys; just not what I was looking for when I ordered it.

There is also Variations Magazine published by Penthouse Magazine. It is a magazine of stories supposedly written by readers although many seem to contain the same writing style. Some stories are good, some bad.

Topping from the Below and Panic Snap by Laura Reese
Fiction
I enjoyed both although I hated the ending to one of them.
Judge for yourself.

Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by A. N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice) I didn't care for it (maybe because it is definitely not FemmeDom)

If you go to Barnes & Noble and look up erotica there are about 1300 titles. Greenery Press has a great selection of books also.

Enjoy

No harm, I just hate to type.

I just bought Exit to Eden again. I read it years ago, but I figured now that I am an adult it may be a better read than when I was a teen.

It will be interesting to find out if your opinion of the book has changed much.

You're right, the library is useless if no one uses it, but people are lazy. It is easy to do a search for new book titles but why do so if you can have people reccommend books they've read recently?
I, personally, love Nemo for setting up the library. It is a wonderful resource and I'd hate to see it disappear.

This thread did prompt me to go see if any new books will be published soon and I am happy to report that in March a new book Partners in Power: Living in Kinky Relationships by
Jack Rinella will be available.

This brought to mind a book called Wifey by Judy Bloom that I read when I was 20. I thought it was the funniest look at marriage that I'd ever read. I think I'll go find it and see if it is still amusing 20+ years later.

A suggestion from tigerjen on the How To Thread that I hadn't heard of...

I have a book titled "The Fine Art of Erotic Talk" by
Bonnie Gabriel..........you can find it in Borders or
Barnes and Noble....even check on www.bn.com for it

It really is a very good book......I suggest that you check
it out........good luck!

Now that is good news indeed. I will have to put that one on my list.

I read that book. I still do not have a frame of reference since I have never been married. But it would be interesting to find out if it still holds up.

I am reading this book called The Castle by somebody Morley I think. I think that it is a book Doms and femsubs would appreciate more that I do.

SENSUOUS MAGIC by Pat Califa is a must have book everyone into S&M should read.

For Xmas my slave gave me 3 classics she purchaced online through Amazon

Marquis de Sade Misfortune of Virtue, Philosophy in the Boudoir, and 120 days of Sodom.

And yes the Sleeping Beauty trilogy is great.

If I find a publisher next year my novel "Enslaving Lucy Saddler" will be the must read novel. (shameless plug)

A great website for bondage stories both text and illustrated is - http://www.darkerpleasures.com/ (another shameless plug)

If you go there read my seasonal story IO SATURNALIA

I am having the hardest time getting into it. I mean I am in the third chapter and its going bad.

I am hoping it catches me soon, or I am giving up on it.

BDSM Fiction...'Great Works'

I'm especially interested in BDSM-themed erotic fiction, not 'how to' books or psychoanalysis...The Marketplace series is looking good, but the only basis for comparison I have is the books by Anne Rice, and they've gotten mixed reviews from others on this forum.

So, if you were to recommend a book of fiction that really captured your vision of a BDSM relationship, or the scene, or whatever, what would it be?

Roman

great fantasy oriented BDSM themed fiction

for those of you who enjoy world-building style Fantasy fiction on the order of Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Stephan Donaldson and that ilk, i have a WONDERFUL suggestion.

check out Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

and the 2nd in the trilogy, Kushiel's Chosen

very strong BDSM themes, incredible world-building, and wonderful writing. she won nebula new writer's award for the first one.

happy reading :D

Screw The Roses, Send Me the Thorns by Phillip Miller & Molly Devon

This is one of the few books we have read in its entirety. It is interseting often funny and a mine of information. The authors make the subject enjoyable to read about and write from personal experience, and there are a lot of great pictures too. We read this one aloud to each other, reading a chapter each alternatively then discussed each chapter after wards it was great fun and helped us learn new things about each others likes and dislikes.:)

Question for the Dom/mes

Different Loving by Gloria & William Brame

Just finished this one. Found it a bit overwhelming as noted in the thread above. There is a ton of information here. I stopped trying to read it front-to-back, and just began to flip through it to what interested me personally. It contains lots of personal anecdotes, interviews with people in the lifestyle, and so forth.

I'd love to see the authors update this book. They do alot of speaking to what was going on at the time (1997) on Compuserve boards as "online" stuff. I'd like to see what their discussion of "online" would include NOW. LOL.

Otherwise, I found it very enlightening and very interesting. One other point I found odd, and I'd love to hear from the Dom/mes on this, was they kept making a point that there are so many more male subs than female subs out there in sub-land.

This shocked me.

It seems to me, just in being here on Lit, and out on the 'net, that exactly the opposite is true.

What say the Dom/mes??

Well, there are a lot of males who say they are subs, but I think a better statement is that more male subs are looking for Dommes.

I get approach almost daily by potential subs. My current boy has been looking for a Domme for over 2 years.

It will be interesting to read what other Dommes say.

Not a Dom/me, but I have a guess. I would bet there are many, many, many boards such as this, but devoted strictly to female Dominants and male submissives. That they have their own spaces or niche on the net. I know of many boards that cater to Pro FemDom/male submissives. This board is primarily hetero Male Dom/female sub orientated, and I think this is the most widely accessible format - it fits into a more traditional male/female paradigm that will draw lots of kinky though not necessarily "lifestyle" boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife models.
