D&D member in high school, all 4 years
College, one year, kicked out because I was not putting in enough time (I had girlfriends and played on teams)

I still have a Dungeon's Master Guide from 1982 upstairs in the attic. It's worth MORE than the $30 I paid for it ;)

Do I detect a nerd-off? You may have more years on you... but I can throw down.

I too.. played, nay, even hosted a weekly D&D game after high school. High school, where I sang in glee and did the plays.. playing MTG backstage with my tech friends.

I’m an old school MUDer before some of these kids knew what MMOs were. Back when it was only text. Oh.. and I code for it too.

September 1978, I discovered the high school computer room. We had just teletype access to a rudimentary network - connected to two local colleges. By December, I was able to successfully code (in BASIC) solutions to most of my Algebra book. I also wrote "simulations" for baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, and auto racing.

When my wife returned to college, I did her Calculus homework along with her, for fun!

A third were there because I was an athlete - soccer and lacrosse.
A third were there because I was a nerd
A third were there in the beginning because I was working at a mom and pop Italian restaurant, and they'd send me home with a shit ton of food.

"Hey there girl, I have some cake and pizza at the apartment" was said in joke. Starving college students jumped LOL

Friday nights after Halloween my freshman year, we'd have parties: beer, soda, and food from the restaurant.

Pizzas
Partial cakes and pies, those that the owner's mom deemed "leftovers"
salads
Even chips and pickles
