This RP starts in January 2014, and if it's successful, the story will be told until the characters celebrate New Year's Eve on December 31st. At that point, this thread would be closed and if the RP is popular, I will start a second thread for everything after Year One.
In this version of the DC Universe, costumed superheroes are only now beginning to appear, and there is no common knowledge yet of any alien species. There are some hints of magic, but this is kept hidden by the League of Shadows, which in this universe is an organization of wizards, witches, sorcerers, demon hunters, mystics, and dark beings that have turned away from evil, such as vampires and werewolves. This version of the League is led by the Circle of Wardens, a council of twelve consisting of R'as al Ghul, John Constantine, Doctor Fate, the Spectre, Zatara, Wotan, Felix Faust, Madame Xanadu, Andrew Bennett, Warren Griffith, Vandal Savage, and Black Manta. The Wardens make sure magic is kept secret as much as possible from the larger world. At the start of the RP, Zatara is the most recent addition to the Circle, having replaced Etrigan, who angrily left the group after accusing some members of corruption and being disregarded.
Our first major story arc will focus on the crimes surrounding the League and the ultimate shattering of the organization. Black Manta, who is a representative for Atlantis within the Circle, ends up turning on King Orin and joins with R'as al Ghul, Wotan, Felix Faust, and Vandal Savage to form a new version of the League of Shadows that deals in organized crime and assassinations.
Madame Xanadu, Andrew Bennett, and Warren Griffith resolve to stay out of the conflict and go their separate ways, while Doctor Fate, John Constantine, the Spectre, and Zatara team up to take down the new League. They are joined by King Orin and eventually, a young Superman.
During Bruce Wayne's travels of the world, he came to learn of the hidden Magi, and even trained some with R'as al Ghul. He became friends with a young Zatara and the two kept in contact after Bruce continued his adventures around the world. In late 2013, it was Zatara who sent Bruce a letter warning him not to return to Gotham, explaining that the Circle of Wardens had relocated there and that someone on the council was a traitor. He also explained that Etrigan resigned after accusing all of them, and that he had been chosen to fill the vacant seat and become a Warden.
Of course, Bruce is not going to listen and immediately returns to Gotham. He creates the identity of Batman and hits the rooftops on New Years Eve as the date becomes January 1st.
Your characters can be members of the League of Shadows that join the fight against their corrupt counterpart, some other magic-based person who becomes a superhero, such as an Atlantean sorcerer, a hero who gains their powers some other way, or a non-powered hero such as Green Arrow or Huntress. Both existing and custom characters are welcome.
I will be playing Bruce Wayne as my primary character, with Superman and Zatara as secondaries, though Supes won't come in until later, and when he does, he hasn't donned the red cape just yet. I will be using the other Wardens mostly as NPCs or villains for us to fight, and if no one claims Aquaman, I will only use him temporarily for this first major arc. If someone wants to play him with the inclusion of waterbending-type powers or Atlantean sorcery, go ahead. If no one claims him, he will just return to Atlantis after the new League of Shadows is defeated.
I would also like to avoid any major alien components at first. I will have Detective John Jones as Jim Gordon's partner in the Gotham City Police Department, but he doesn't reveal his Martian powers until much later on. Someone could play Hal Jordan at some point if they want, but I want to keep the universe on a much smaller scale -- maybe the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians only operate on a small network of planets in the Milky Way. Maybe there are only a few dozen inhabited planets and moons in the galaxy, connected by Zeta Tubes or stargates or hyperspace-routes. Maybe there are a few thousand Green Lanterns spread out in teams of four to six and Hal Jordan first joins a team led by Sinestro before he betrays the Corps and become a Yellow Lantern.
Though, I want to keep the whole scope of the RP much more grounded in Gotham City. I'd like to have 75% of the story take place in the city and 25% take place abroad, such as Metropolis or Bialya or North and South Rhelasia.
After the League of Shadows arc, I will bring in Bane and Mr. Freeze and Killer Croc and other Gotham villains, ultimately leading up to a story arc focused on the Joker and Harley Quinn (any girls wanna play her?). After that, we can just roll with it and see how it unfolds. Once the in-game date nears the 2014 holiday season, we can gradually up the scale, have a brief reprieve on Christmas Day, and then lead into an all out epic slugfest in the 72-hours before New Year's Eve, with the final battle resolved before 12:01am.
If we all still want to keep the story going, we can start a new thread under a new name, maybe fast forward a year or two and have it based on the formation of the Justice League. I'm open to suggestions. Also, if any of you fine females want to play Selina Kyle or Talia al Ghul or a teenage Barbara Gordon that develops a crush on Batman, I wouldn't argue

He had taken advanced classes at the Gotham Academy and graduated with honors, being accepted into Princeton University at only sixteen. He attended for two years and then dropped out when he learned that Joe Chill -- the man who murdered his parents -- had escaped prison. He tracked Chill for months, which eventually led him to R'as al Ghul and the rest is history.
