Whether or not one agrees with his politics, it seems to me that at a website that celebrates erotica one should acknowledge and admire that he was the first congressman to come out as gay, way back in the 1980s. That was a courageous thing to do. As someone who had friends come out as gay back then, I can honor him as someone who helped make it easier to do that. RIP.
