I now have each of these super book stores, one right across the mall from the other.

I feel Borders is by far the better store for their magazine section, cafe, music and book offerings. Plus the people at Borders seem to have much more knowledge of their respective sections. I have yet to stump the college age music employee on finding a CD based on a few lyrics I give to her.

What about you?

Yeah, I like Borders.. plus they usually have good live music on the weekends.

Borders is one of my favorite places. The one by me has several discussion groups. Local talent on the weekends. I have seen everything from clasical to hip hop. Barnes & Noble is kind of stuffy, Borders has a a more casual atmosphere. We also love Half Price Books, I can spend hours in a bookstore.

I go to B&N for the coffee, hubby likes Borders for the chocolate covered coffee beans :)

For the books, I like 'em all!

weird.....I too had a preference....I liked B&N...but when I bought my neice a gift certificate there it had a bunch of stores listed on the back...and there was Borders! I did not know they were owned by the same Corporation.....oh well Borders is closer anyway.

I'm kind of partial to Borders myself. Like Teressa said, it's more casual and easy going. Besides, they let my Swing Dance group blast our Jive music and dance until they close. How can you hate a place like that? ;)

Slainte!

i don't have a particular favorite.. b/c i've been to a large number of different stores of each, i'm fairly confident that it depends on the idividual store, and not the franchise.. when i go to chicago, there are close to half a dozen of each within an hour or so.. i go to the closes B&N if i want to look specifically for sci-fi/fantasy books, the Borders if i'm looking for NIN imports or RPG manuals.. another Borders that's further away has the better selection of books AND the manuals, but not much in the way of music.. and the B&N that is next to where i work (Sioux Falls, SD) has an ok selection of books, manuals, and music all in one place...

and that's not even considering the atmospheres of the different places..

They must carry Maxim.
Our version and England's and France's. Pretty cool because the pics are more wild in the European versions.

In the foriegn versions, the girls don't shave their pits or legs, right?

There was one French version that did a pictorial of hairy women. Nothing was shaved and some of them had hair everywhere. Gross!

I would like to place my vote for "Half Price Books"... it is more within my budget... as far as those big fancy-shmancy places go... I love them... but I can hardly afford the coffee (mmmmm mocha latte... mmmmm.)

I don't use either, though Borders online found an out of print book for me at the cover price. It beat the heck out of Amazon.com, which found the same book and was going to charge about ten times as much.

Our local Barnes and Noble is in an area with awful parking. The desk people don't seem to know anything without looking it up, and it has a Starbuck's attached. We are boycotting it since the time it took over an hour to get a simple cup of coffee, in which time the car was ticketed to the tune of $35.00.

I don't like the Borders in the area. Similar parking difficulties, and I am so lazy . . . the only huge bookstores I like are Kenny's in Galway and Book City in Portland. Otherwise, I like a more compact browsing area.

My favorite bookstores are really Amazon.com for the regular stuff and A Common Reader for the GOOD stuff. I like shopping without distractions (rude people, women with strollers, noise) and anticipating opening the package and pulling out my book.

If I miss out on the occasional latte, well, so be it.
