Bare...and it is definately worth the upkeep. Hubby likes "muff diving" more that way and that means I get it a lot more...it's not rocket science!

I cannot stand a lot of growth, drives me crazy... trim to the bare bones and then shave the rest.

I must be in the minority, I keep mine neatly trimmed,mainly because that is the way my sweetie likes it. Tried the totally shaved look, he said it was too little girlish, so this is a good compromise for us both.
