Back at Rick's Small one bed room plus kitchenette apartment, Rick locks himself in the kitchenette for half an hour, preparing their meal.
While he is cooking the meal, Mary plays around with Rick's eclectic collection of CDs. It is important for her to find out about Rick each day, little bit more and more. She has the feeling they, as a couple, can go very far. And she is quite aware that she is taking chances. She wants this relationship to work: to last.
"Rick, we need to talk," Mary says after fully enjoying what Rick has whipped up in the kitchenette.
"Oh-oh," thinks Rick. From his past experiences with his ex-girlfriends, nothing good has come from the 'we need to talk'.
"Let me clear out the table, first," he tries a diversion.
"Rick, let's talk about sex." Mary says, flatly.
"Let's talk about sex, baby/Let's talk about you and me/Let's talk about all the good things/Without the bad things..." Rick sings and dances around shaking his ass, quite comically. When the heat is on him, it is his habit to deflect it by humor: a typical classroom clown behavior.
"I'm serious, Rick!" Mary says a little frustrated. She is the one with the shorter fuse.
"OK. OK." Rick sits down next to Mary. He faces her square on. His heart beats a little faster, not quite knowing what she is going to do with this sex-talk. Her eyes are adorably clear, looking at him. His stomach feels warm. He feels as if a butterfly is batting its wings in his heart. It feels darn good.
On Mary's face, her determination is showing. The determination that she wants it out in the open and being discussed frankly.
