Baluster

Hi Doc. Baulaster is an upright, it usually refers to the main upright at the head and foot of a stair case. At least, thats what my grandfather (a master carpenter) refered to them as when he was installing stairs. The minor uprights were usually called spindals, even if they weren't worked on a lathe.

In most modern houses, you won't find one at the head of the stair case, since most houses don't have floating stair cases any more. Instead you will find one at the foot, usually set into the floor and the rail will be attached to the wall jousts at the head of the stairs.

That depends... What color baluster?

Doc you've replied to these things before: it depends on the context.

But, in the general context of a story intended for literotica, I'd say most would not know and possibly be confused.

Now, maybe if you gave a little hint for context, like "He fastened the rope to his uncircumcized baluster..." --wait, no, somebody's going to need to know what kind of knot...

and she watched as he took out a length of rope, bent down and tied it to one of the balusters on(SUPPORTING) the second floor rail,
Doc,

I'd strongly suggest you omit "on" (for one thing, I believe they're under) and add SUPPORTING. That's how the Encarta dictionary used the term.
