hey you ! YES I had a really good evening shift !! I'm so pleased with myself..

this woman I was sitting with tonight... she's about 87 I think, and is in the beginning stages of alzheimers... well at least THEY say it's alzheimers. I swear, I think every time an elderly person starts losing their memory they label them with that, when I think, quite often... it's simply old age!
ANYWAY... when I got there at 3, we watched some afternoon TV.. she doesn't care to watch TV and told me to watch whatever I wanted... so I watched the nascar race in California while she napped in her chair ;)

I took her downstairs to the diningroom for her dinner, while I went to the lounge and ate my chinese take out *lickin' my lips* :p We went back upstairs and while channel surfing we came across CMTV (country music TV) and they were having a special... Top 100 country love songs, most of the Original artists were there to sing their songs. One song came up and she looked at me with these great big eyes and said "my husband and I used to dance to this song!" she got tears in her eyes, which made me get tears in mine... I can only imagine the memories she was having. I looked at her and said "Mary, would you like to dance?" She beamed and said "why YES I would!" SO I helped her out of her chair, moved her walker and we danced to that song. *getting tears here now thinking about it*

It was a precious and priceless few moments for that old woman, and just thrilled me that I could help brighten her evening :D

I'm not so sure about that, since it's easy to talk to and compliment someone you like.

Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't

*shrugs* I just thought she needed a spirit lift and she so enjoyed it.
It's amazing the little things we can do to bring a smile to an elderly persons' face, and they don't take much of our time... but mean the world to them.
