Women Say Single Life Is Better?

BERLIN (Reuters) - More than 80 percent of single German women are perfectly happy without a man in tow and say living solo gives them more freedom to do what they want, according to a survey for Stern magazine.

Coming amid mounting political alarm about Germany's low birthrate and aging population, the survey of 1,003 women showed only two percent did not enjoy their solitary lifestyle and 36 percent opted to stay single because it was more fun.

Almost half the women said they preferred single life because it was easier to keep their homes tidy and 36 percent said with no man on the scene they didn't have to endure watching sports on television.

My take on that particular subject is that I would rather be single than in a relationship and not happy.

I've seen so many married people who complimentarily make each other miserable in some form or fashion. I know some women who put up with total unnecessary things just to have a married life.

So my women's lib, bra burning, let's all hold hands and chant persona thinks it's great that women see that they don't have to have that married status to be a person and to do amazing things. It means a new era for independence. But being single because you're house is neater? Please! Get that girl a vibrator, she obviously needs to shake out of her shell.

Be happy with yourself, know that a person cannot make you happy with yourself only you can do that, and just let what happens happen.

Being single has it's perks, but I like to have something to curl up next to in the middle of the night (my feet get cold, I need an ass to stick them under) and an occasional poke in the sheets is always welcomed. Plus I get tired of squishing the big scarey bugs myself. I mean there's just so many shoes I can throw at them before they get hip to my technique!

My five minutes of attention are up.....oooh shiney!

I can understand the German women's reluctance.

The idea of 'Kinder, Kuche, Kirke' (Children, Kitchen, Church) as suitable roles for German women seems still to be imprinted in many German men, even young ones.

Over the years we have had many foreign men as non-paying house guests, e.g. teachers, tour guides, coach drivers.

Two of the Germans were impossible. They expected my wife to drop everything and attend to them at once. Their idea of a woman's role was that anything a man wanted should take precedence.

On the other hand we had a German couple staying. Either she, or his mother, had trained him well. They were great fun and helpful.

It wasn't a question of misunderstanding. My wife speaks German fluently.
