What next? First it was stadiums. Then convention centers. Hospital wings, theaters. Anywhere that you can think of to slap a logo, a name, a picture of a product, someone will exploit it.

But now I have heard everything! Check out this article:

Couple Selling Naming Rights to Baby

By ELIZABETH LESURE
.c The Associated Press

NEW YORK (July 27) - Jason Black and Frances Schroeder don't know what they will name the baby boy they're expecting. But they aren't leafing through any ''Name Your Baby'' books.

Instead, the couple are looking for a corporate sponsor to pay half a million dollars for their son's name. Only time and money will tell whether the child will get a name like ''Heinz'' or ''Microsoft,'' ''Coke'' or ''Kraft.''

''It's the opportunity to have this media moment when the name would be unveiled,'' said Black. ''The exposure that it could bring to a business is potentially huge, and we think it would be well worth the investment on their part.''

Black and Schroeder have put the naming rights up for auction on both eBay and Yahoo!, at a minimum bid of $500,000. The ads were posted July 18 and will run through July 28. So far, there have been no bidders, but they plan to extend their offer.

Black and Shroeder, both 32, live in a 2-bedroom apartment with their daughters, Josephine, 4, and Lois, 22 months. They are anticipating that the birth of their son will leave them scrambling for more space.

''It's going to be a little crowded,'' Black said.

They hope that money from the deal would allow them to buy a house and save for their children's college education.

Black said he is not worried that an unusual name would make the child the target of any jokes at school.

''As long as we provide him with a comfortable and loving home, he's going to turn out fine,'' Black said.

How very diplomatic of you. What a way with words you have. Unlike you, I do not have all day to sit and peruse the boards. When there are 3 pages worth of new threads to go through, I need to pick and choose which are worth my time.

Apparently, the fact that I bypassed yours and started one with the same topic, upsets your delicate sensibilities and undermines your belief that you are the center of the world. I suppose that is disappointing to learn at your age. Most people get over that around 5 years old.

To the rest of the board, if seeing a duplicate thread is upsetting to you, please accept my apologies.

Markov Vain, either grow a thicker skin or learn to live within the confines of a community - meaning keep your snide comments to yourself.

I'm not upset.

But I think that poor kid will be, growing up named General Electric Schroeder. Kinda sounds like Ricky's mean veteran uncle.

dont worry Barb Dwyer ive been spending WAY to much time on here past few days and i never saw this other thread

markov is a very sensitive person ive noticed from other threads too :)

Hehe... I saw THIS thread first so you get my post. I would vote for "absurd" since I can't imagine any company actually paying anything close to what these idiots want to name a baby. Actually, I can't imagine any company paying anything at all to name a human. The pubilicity would be negative for them, I think. They can get that for free.
