In an obviously party line vote, Arizona Republicans have forced through three bills which would expand religious exemptions for those not wanting to have their children vaccinated along with eliminating the requirement parents explicitly sign a waiver which would inform them of the consequences of not getting their children vaccinated, would require medical providers give detailed information about vaccines, including the prescription's package insert, to parents, and finally give patients, their parents or legal guardians the option for an antibody titer test to see whether the individual has developed antibodies to vaccine preventable diseases. In other words, Arizona Republicans are going full bore in their attacks on science.

When asked to comment on these far ranging and potentially lethal changes, Representative Nancy Barto told Media Services:

"These are not, in my view, anti-vaccine bills. They are discussions about fundamental individual rights."

In her opinion, allowing people to endanger the lives of others is perfectly reasonable because it's a person's individual right, whereas it is guaranteed if she were asked her opinion of a woman's right for an abortion that "fundamental individual right" would be overridden by the power of big government.

With any luck, Arizona will become like Eastern Europe with mass outbreaks of measles, whooping cough, and other preventable diseases. Then we'll be treated to the chorus of how it's those illegals causing the problems.
