avs that move/change

Anyone know how to make an av that changes or moves?

It requires an animation program and GIF format.

The size limitations for avatars also limits the complexity of the animation because only about four frames can be squeezed into a 150x150 pixel image without exceeding the 20Kb allowed.

Gifworks.com is adequate for one-time or infrequent simple animated GIF editing.

For anything more frequent than once or twice a year avatar editing or for more editing capabilities, you need to visit a shareware download site or google for "animation editor" or "animation program" to find one you can afford and/or fits your needs.

I use the copy of JASC Software's Animation Shop that came with my copy of PaintShop Pro. Thirty day trials of both programs can be downloaded from www.jasc.com (Animation Shop uses PaintShop Pro by default for editing individual frames but can beconfigurd to use any still-image editor.)

Animation Shop isn't the best animation program available but it is more capable than GIFWorks and is sufficient for my infrequent animation needs.

Thanks H!

sounds to complicated for me!

I just wanted to have 3 or 4 avs (or so) sort of rotate or something. But it doesn't sound like there is any easy way to do that:)

A "slideshow" av is actually the easiest kind of animated GIF to do because ou don't have to worry about actualy animating anything and matching up the frame positions closely.

The only problem you'd encounter is reducing the individual frames to 256 colors without some strange effects.

If you have Adobe CS or photoshop and Image ready its really easy, make your 150x150 pixel image and make a number of layers, one for each of the transitions, save the picture (with layers) then chose edit in image ready, then set each frame in the animate window with the correct layer on or off then select the optimize option. It didnt mean much to me at first its all in the photoshop how too and is easy enough when you have a play with the settings, as harold said its the size thats hard to get down

Or you could find an already created animated gif. But it is a little more complicated if you're trying to customize.

Hmm...not to seem condescending, but creating an animated GIF isn't nearly as complicated at many people make it seem.

For a long time now I've used a small, rather handy program called simply "Microsoft GIF Animator" to make my (infrequent) animated GIFs. It's quite easy to use, once you get the hang of it...you can just copy and paste images into the frames and shuffle the order around, and set other options with text entry boxes.

The bad news is, I can't remember where I originally got the program from.

The GOOD news is that, when I realized just how handy the program was, I permanently saved the original archive to my auxillary hard drive. I do this with any program that strikes me as being particularly good or handy; that way, I'll always have them, even if the original files on the 'Net disappear (which has happened before...grr...).

If anyone expresses an interest, I might can see about sending the archive to people, or maybe even hosting it for download (for a *short* while).

Or, try looking up "Microsoft GIF Animator" in Google or something...it's bound to still be floating around out there in cyberspace.

EDIT: Oops...I forgot to mention this. The main reason I like this particular program, aside from the simplicity, is that it's FREE. 100% no-cost freeware. Whee!
