I have the latest version, but cannot seem to load the most recent priority downloads for my Internal Virus Database.

I save and d/l them but when I go to open and run it says "Could not start application"

u7iavi452h4.bin
u7f4053y.bin

These ^^ are a couple of the d/ls. There are four. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling. In Safe Mode as well.

Help please?

TIA

I just connected and updated to Priotiry update 452 for "AVG Free v7" with no problems -- It doesn't seem to be a problem with the update files.

You've done everything I would initially suggest, so I don't know what else you can do. Rebooting in Safe Mode should have disabled any firewalls that might be causing a problem and any conflicting anti-virus software.

I guess I'd try something like Trendmicro's Housecall virus scan to make sure you haven't pickd up something that will block anti-virus programs and then run a complete scandisk, defrag and RAM memory test to make sure you don't have a bad spot on your harddrive or RAM that could be causing a problem.

I'll give it a try! Thank you, WH!!

Start AVG,

Go to Control Center, Rt-Clk Update manager, Properties, and uncheck
"Do not ask for the update source"
Then when you do the update, specify the folder where the files are.

But it's really better to let AVG update and install automatically, rather than downloading the .bin files and trying to do it this way.
Check the other options to update from the internet, rather than downloading the files.
Good luck.
Oh, you have to make sure you get the right .bin file(s) if you do it your way too.

grrrr
I've tinkered with the firewall and the settings and everything and still can't get it to work. I can get every other d/l for it but the internal virus database.

I just updated again, and the current files are tagged 455 and 802.

A thought just occured -- how much room is there on your drive C:?

The only problem I've ever had updating AVG was caused by a lack of space on the C: drive (despite having AVG installed on Drive I:). Apparently, AVG requires a fairly large amount of free space over and above the file sizes to update the virus databases.

It's also the only time I've had to resort to downloading the files to a folder to install them instead of updating directly from the internet.

I have a 40 gig and it's 70% free.

It's the weirdest thing....

My pc was struggling and going a lil sluggish and I tried for several days to get the updates loaded, to no avail.

Last night out of the blue, AVG popped up as fully functional and all updates loaded... and I did nothing. I wasn't even in the middle of loading anything.
