Is any one aware of the correlation between national wealth and average weight of the citizens?

Does the national wealth decrease as the average weight increases after a certain point?

This is just an academic inquisition.

Your thoughts?

Apparently, Americans are fat.
And now they're poor and getting poorer.

So yes - there appears to be a correlation between wealth (or lack of) and weight.

Hold it!
That wasn't what you meant, was it?!

As the richest nation on earth by a wide margin, I think we're doing alright.

Perhaps.

US debt has increased from 1980 and the Average weight also increased.

Is there any other country where weight gain is directly proportional to national debt.

I want to consider only countries that are not third world countries.

Did this happen in Greece or Spain?

Can weight gain be a precursor to debt load?

Correlation is not cause. Leaves and turds and condoms float down the river together but thats all they have in common.

Correlation is not all ways the cause, you need to look at the correlation coefficient which tells how closely the two variables are related.

The closer it is to + 1 or -1 the tighter the relation ship.

Obesity can cause decreased productivity and increased health care costs which can decrease the nations wealth.

I am trying to get peoples perspective on that basis.

When a U.S. dollar is devalued in buying power it seems to be time to go back to the gold standard.

Look at what happened to the German Mark in 1944.

Look, some graphs.

It kinda looks like there's a non-linear relationship between BMI and per-capita GDP. Granted, GDP is not a perfect measure of prosperity, but the numbers are easy to find.

An opposing view is that people gain weight as the nation becomes wealthy because they can afford to eat more.
So obesity increases as wealth increases?

Is America still the richest nation?
I'm on my tablet, and using google means I have to close everthing else.

A little nation in the middle east called Qatar, I think, is officially the richest nation on earth. Has been for a few years, I think.

But that's a lot of thinking. You can google later.

Maybe per capita, but America is the richest nation by far.

I sent you a link to a GDP/Weight charts compiled by Professor Amile Sanders of the University of Alabama's Treyton School of Government.

There are probably other such works but Sanders' "GDP/W" data is comprehensive covering over 50 nations going back to the start of the Industrial Revolution.

Hope that helps.

Depends on how you define "richest nation". Is it by the latest GDP or some other figure? Maybe the average income of one of its citizens, but then is that a raw comparison or relative to local cost of living?
