Average ratings/hearts per view

My highest story is 4.84% for votes and my overall average is 1.95%

My high is 1.03% - one vote for every 97 views - and my low is... 0.04%. Yes, six total votes on almost 14,000 views. The rating for that story is 4.67, so anyone who has voted... voted highly. But that's one vote for each 2300 views. That's so far out of line with all of my other stories that I have no idea what to think of it (Maggie and the Sailors in E&V).

As an IT geek and somewhat of a STEM focus, I'd think if the admins would tell us the source of the Views stat, we might better assess the impact. Is it those who click on merely page 1 of a multi-page story? Or for those multi-page stories, is it those who click thru the last page?

A view means only that someone clicked on the story and opened it. That's all. It does NOT indicate that someone clicked on more than the first page or read the story.

Actually, you can't even say that the number of votes is the least number of people who actually read the story because we all know the mad 1-bombers who go through the new stories and 1-bomb them without reading them.

Truest words!

I think we can say with some confidence that while this number is above zero it is far, far less than the number of people who DO finish the story but don't vote on it. So I think it's fair and safe to assume that the number of finished reads greatly exceeds the number of votes.

If votes without finishing a story (ie; skipping pages or going directly to the end) isn't part of the sweep algorithm I would be surprised. Regardless of the vote rating, the system should be able to tell when someone tries to take short cuts. It's like sites not allowing you to check the box agreeing to the terms and conditions until you have at least scrolled to the end of them.
