Schubert’s music was actually called ‘Ellens dritter Gesang’, which translates as ‘Ellen’s Third Song’. He wrote it in 1825, aged 28, to the words of Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem The Lady of the Lake. The song does contain the words ‘Ave Maria’, but only in reference to the prayer itself.

just thought Id clear that up.
 
I remember one of the soprano phenoms singing it in front of the Methodist congregation in high school. She was 15 going on 40. That would make her about 90 in 3/4 time. :)

everyone too quick to write people off through appearances, forgetting there are many overweight singers, historically, who have knocked the socks, pants AND undies off of their audiences.
