Does this mean we have to have 100 posts before we can use any avatars? I have one already to go...........

Yep You have to get to 100 posts before you can use an av.

Think of it as a reward for putting up with some of the folks on the board.

Im living in Nagoya, Japan right now teaching little kids English. It has been loads of fun. I have been keeping track of the board over the past year but I havnt posted very much, and Im still shopping for a camera with some English instructions. Dont want to serve up low quality pics. Soon I hope, unitl then Ill keep the fingers tapping away.

I noticed your into travelling, where have you adventured so far?

i've travelled pretty much everywhere in europe... from backpacking through scandinavia for 2 months to the baltic states and north western russia to the delights of italy and croatia.... been there, done that, got the t-shirt

I really want to go back to the middle east though and visit Syria, the Lebanon, the Yemen and Iraq & Iran, although South-East Asia or Romania, Moldova, the Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are top on the "to-do" list as well.... hehehe I'm just a globetrotter at heart

That kind of defeats the purpose of having an avatar. Every time you change your avatar, it changes on ALL of your posts -- right back to your very first post.

If the avatar is different every time someone looks at a post, the rest of us don't have a visual clue as to who posted it, or some sense of the persona a poster wants to convey about who they think (or wish) they are.

I'd prefer that people developed a sense of my persona based on what it was I posted rather than a picture.

I'd understand your argument more If I kept changing my screen name.

I could wear the same pair of underwear everyday too, but don't think that is the persona I'd like to leave in someones mind...LOL

You're going to need a photo processing software like Paint Shop Pro, Picture It or something similar that will let you open a photo then save it in a different format. If you need additional help with it, you can e-mail it to me, or "girl" or others who have been helping new "Avatars" on this thread.

It's a GREAT avatar - Much better than the "Alien Landsape" imho. Congratulations on the "big 100". I remember what a thrill that was for me when I first got my Ava.

Thats for sure the pic i would have liked to use is the thunderbirds i have one on the wall and it's autographed real neat pic. just try and find a scanner big enough but i do like the one i have. take it easy.

I have been having the same problem in getting an avatar. (needs to be a jpg or gif, etc), I finally found a pic, but don't know how to resize it.. can anyone help me?

Sure can. (There are a couple of threads in this forum that discuss the best programs for resizing pictures and how to use them.)
