I've seen some impressive hats in my time, but your brain-powered propellor-beanie is a first. When you're deep in thought, I'll bet that sucker spins like crazy! The dangling pom-poms are an interesting touch, but isn't it distracting when you lose centrifugal force and they slap your chin?

Well, I'm not a good judge of what I look like... which is why I don't usually put pics of myself in my AV because I judge they look bad. My lack of self esteem is legendary.

Avatars definitely influence perceptions about people online, whether it is a pic of their face, a body part, a cartoon, whatever. I have totally missed a guess on someone's gender because of the avatar they have used. Overall it doesn't make a huge difference, I don't think, but it does give a little more insight as to personality, regardless of what the AV is. Strangely, my face really doesn't seem to say who I am.

I was going to post a picture of my penis, but enough people see me and say, "What a dick!" anyway, so I figured there was no point.

I used to have many more AVs, but I've saved them somewhere. Gotta find the CD. In the beginning when I came to Lit I use other images, but then I began to use pics of me. Seems to be the most appreciated as nowadays when I change to something else, someone asks when I'll put myself there again.

At times I do wonder "what if someone I know sees me?" Then I remind myself that so what? That person is probably here for similar reasons as me, so what should I care if they saw me? (crap grammar, sorry. I'm tired)

I like AVs to reflect the person behind it. May it be their interest, an image of themselves or something that signifies their mood. I'm not particularly fond of closeups of genitals. It's far too distracting and too 'in your face'. If it's done humorously though, and not too much of a closeup I might not mind.

Oh, and I finally switched on AVs again so I can see what you all have! Lately I have them off.

Mind you, I think the penis of the adult male homo sapiens is just about the most fabulous flesh-and-blood object on earth. But it's not always easy to talk to one. In a forum where topics of discussion range from Tennyson to what the cat threw up, a stranger's penis can be an intimidating partner in conversation. It stares at you with that narrowed eye, as if skeptical.

Faces can be nice to talk to; if they happen to be your own, they indicate an enviable devil-may-care attitude toward local law enforcement and/or discovery by your boss, your minister, or my mother. For those of us who'd rather not be recognized if Uncle Bob happens upon Literotica, I enjoy AVs that hint at the owner's personality, whether playfully, teasingly, or in the case of Perdita's travel pix, in a way that lets us glimpse the life behind the words.

I also enjoy nicely done erotic AVs - of which vella's/Lucky's are a perfect example - that communicate more than the sum of the parts.

When conversing with genitalia, without benefit of a formal introduction, I prefer a a half-monty in three-quarters shadow to a floodlit close-up of the main event. If your erect penis is the best way to illustrate how impressed you were with the Tower of Pisa over the holidays, bring it on.

Buy the same token, I don't like (ie, prefer to) talking to people about sex stuff when they have children in there avs. It's unsettling. Or talking about kids or people who've died or things of that nature with overtly pornographic avs. But what can you do? You can't change your av according to the conversation you're having (well you can, but later when you change it back it will change in that convo as well.)

The closest thing I can do (personally) is that I turn off my sigline if I think "Have you ever had sex wtih a stranger" would be disrespectful considering the conversation (ie, the death of Reagan or a serious thread about rape.)

Overt ones sometimes make me slightly uncomfortable, but I figure it's my problem and not there's. It's a porn boad and all that. Even the non-erotic story section has porn ads on it. (unfortunaly sometimes)

My favorite avs are faces (and I realize that not everybody is willing or able to show theres). The people I feel like I know best mostly show there face (and a few show *a* face that is not there own, like theEarl.) Lou, 'Dita, Doc, cant, svenska, to name a few. There is something trustworthy about a person who shows there face.

But I also enjy representational ones as well, however in most cases when I've seen someone's face I miss it when they post scenery, body parts or anything else (like 'dita's coffee cup or cant's leaves)

I'm not sure if I've seen EL's face or not, but I really do enjoy her cleavage

Overall, I really like something familiar that I can recognize the person by. (Be that a face or a repeated symbol such as minsue's duck)

On the BDSM board there was one memorable one of the back of someone's head, I kept wanting her to turn around! It was a good av.
