Avatar question?

Save the picture and then size it and use it.

IF you need help with the sizing, send me the picture and I'll do it for you.

I have an avatar on Yahoo IM that I love. Being a "truth in advertizing" kinda girl it's the closest thing to a picture I have of myself. ;) Is there a way to make that my avatar here? (hope hope hope)

If it's smaller than 150x150 pixels and less than 20480 bytes, al you need to do is save it to your computer and upload it as a custom avatar here.

Uploading an avatar does allow you to specify a URL, but like the IMG tags only certain URLs will work. I don't believe a URL from any of Yahoo's image functions will work.

If you need a program to resize or convert to JPG (the preferred format for avatars here) check out www.irfanview.com for a fre program tha tis very good at prepping (still) images for us as avatars.

Ok that was every foreign language I don't know all wrapped up into one post! LOL Pixels and Bytes and I think I've heard of JPG, but WHOOOSH! all over this mouse's head. Hmmm... maybe I'll just leave the avatar thing alone. It seems like a lot of mess since I don't know how to do it and don't know how to get stuff to someone to help me do it. Blergh.

ok let's see if i can clarify here, if the files is less than 20480 bytes then right click on it and save it to a folder on your hard drive (assuming you are viewing it from a webpage). next upload it from your user settings on this webpage and voila! you should be done. Hope that kinda cleared things up a bit.

It's not a foreign language, it's "Jargon." ;)

If you right click on my avatar and select "properties" from the menu that come up, you'll get a dialogue window that tells you where it's located and how big it is, among other things. that windows give the size in bytes and the dimensions in pixels.

All you need to know is, that in this context, "bytes" and "pixels" are the labels you need to look for. The numbers next to those labels need to be smaller than the limits set for avatars.

Your Yahoo avatar is probably a GIF format image -- that's the file extension that identifies the way the picture is organized stored on the disk -- and GIFs will work if they're small enough. If you can right click on it and check it's properties yu can determine if it will work as an avatar here by looking for the labels.

It's really not rocket science, and the only other option is to invite one of us perverts over to your house to do it for you. :p

Okay- here's a simpler idea.
I'm due for my AV for someone else of the month, so here's what I'll do.
Either post/link the pic here to Lit. I'll save and resize it for you, then post it here for you.
Then you download to your puter, follow that with going through the "Options" menu on your control panel bar and down through the AV buttons. Upload it there and viola! An AV.

I swear ya'll are the helpfullest (is that a word?) people on earth! I've had several people try to walk me through things and send them my av off my Yahoo chat thing, but I think the gods of the computer are against the idea, becasue it keeps not working. ;)

Where is it not working?

are you able to send and receive the yahoo av as a regular attachment and then can't upload it?

or

is it the sending and receiving that isn't working?

I think it's the sending and receiving. And yes it's animated. TattooedSpike helped me find out where the image was in my computer, and I tried sending it to him, but it did't work.

Animated avatars are a problem becuse of the size limits here at Lit. It's hard to shrink the down small enough if there are more than about four frames. (more Jargon,I know. ;))

First, see if you can find the avatar and just copy it to My Documents. If you can do that sending and receiving should be the same as any other attachment.

Trying to send the original may have problems with your e-mail or chat program trying to open it when it's in use. sending a copy shouldn't have that problem.

PS: you can also try attaching the original to a post in this thread where more of us can try to make it work for you. Thesize limit is much bigger for an attachment than for an avatar so it should fit as an attachment.

Wooohooo, i can help here too :D dang I am good with computer questions, okay you CAN'T save your yahoo avatar, not physically possible, just tried it myself, but here's what you can do

1. get a program called screenhunter 4.0 and its FREE
2. set the preferences for when you click a certain button it brings up an arrow to show what you would like to take a picture of
3. take that arrow icon and spread it *hehe sorry* to incorporate your avatar. then it should show up in the folder that you designate
3. Follow what everyone else says about resizing

Have Fun :D
