Author of Non-Erotic Novels

Not sure what your post has to do with this Web site, but I went the other way. I wrote mainstream novels and then drifted over into erotica as well.

I'm not sure where the best place to post this is, so I decided to try here first. I am a writer, more by hobby than profession currently. But my goal is to someday have a novel published and, ideally, reach the New York Times Bestseller List. The novels I write are not erotic. They are fantasy fiction and, most times, are written primarily for children.

I'm wondering if there are others on here with similar goals that write in similar genres. I would love to meet some other aspiring authors who are in the process of getting their novels written, edited, and published. Feel free to respond to this thread or PM me if you'd like to begin a conversation. Thanks!

This site has a sizeable 'Non Erotic' story category, and it is pretty well supported.
Authors round here will give all the help they can, including on publishing and so on.
Welcome to the Hangout.
:)

A children's novel and wanting to get on to the New York Times list with it? I don't think the nonerotic section of Literotica is relevant to this.

Have you checked out Smashwords (the online publishers)? They have a considerable children's publication list. It's very easy to publish to them - and free. My other blog: Erotica Writers' Bloc has a blogpost on how easy it is to publish to Smash, comparing it to Lit and Amazon. Let me know if you would like the direct link to the post.

Frequent these forums, particularly this one, Authors' Hangout/AH. There have been a lot of threads here discussing the means available for getting your work published for pay. Also, check out the "Stickies" [permanent threads listed at the top of the Forum Index page]. Finally, a lot of Lit writers have blogs in which they have written on the subject of publishing for pay.

None of this pops up in AH or elsewhere daily, either the threads or the posters who do blogs, but if you check in to AH every other day or so, you will catch something sooner or later.

Oh I forgot. Have you checked Facebook? I belong to two writers' groups on Facebook, one for Romance (which is rubbish) and one for erotica (which is very good but there is no flirting ). There are very likely to be groups for children's writers on FB. It's very easy to set up a profile if you want to be anonymous, too. I have two FB proflies, one mommy lady who occasionally forgets and posts something a bit risque and one naughty lady who sometimes forgets and posts some serious political stuff.

Despite what the self appointed gate keepers to this board seem to think, this is the Author's Hangout, not the erotica Author's Hangout. Granted most of the stories here are of an erotic nature but Literotica does have a Non-Erotic section.

It appear to me from your post you are looking to be published by a publishing house, instead of publishing just e-books. I know little about self publishing. If on the other hand I'm right and your looking to be published both print and e-books you'll need an literary agent.

This site may help you. Writer Digest. There is a webinar going on today about finding an agent, it's to take place at 1pm EST. The cost is $75.00.

Everything You Need to Know About Getting an Agent: Queries, Synopses, Pitching, Copyright, and More

Don't worry if you happen to miss this webinar you can get the tapes and books later.

Well, to be more specific this is Literotica author's hangout. This thread is about writing children's novels in the mainstream from someone who isn't a Literotica author.

Are some people missing the "children" part of this as well as it not being about Literotica at all?

Maybe I should put what I wrote in bold! I'll edit to do so.

I can do that too. Read the damn OP. It's about children's mainstream novels being asked by someone who isn't a Literotica author.

(Can't do much for you if you insist on being totally brain dead)

Maybe you should read your own signature and stay out of other people's business.

Funny. You asked for help--although you are on the wrong train without a map to be asking on an erotica web site you're just passing through for information on mainstreaming children's novels.

I was referring to Dsylexicea with the clueless comment, but it certainly applies to you as well. Somebody needed to tell you you missed your train and that this isn't Grand Central Station.

Now, if you want to find agents and publisher's for print publisher children's novels, go to your local library and ask at the reference desk for the most recent copy of The Literary Marketplace. You can get to children's novel agents and publisher through the index of that. It's the industry's bible and is free use. If you want to have a list of e-book publishers handling children's novels, PM me, and I'll send you a list of web site URLs for that.

To the self appointed gate keeper.

I'm not sure who can't read here.
fantasy fiction

By the way the mention of children is not taboo, it is the sexual use of children and others under 18 which is not allowed. The word children is not taboo, nor is it taboo to say he writes children stories. Nor are there any rules that someone has to publish here or if they do their stories have to be well written. As a matter of fact there is no rule saying someone who post in the Author's Hangout has to be an author. Just like there is no rule that someone who post on the GLBT board has to be GLBT or at the very least curious.

Get the freak off your high horse.

I'm game. index some children's stories posted to Literotica, let alone servicing of people here who have contributed nothing here wanting to publish somewhere else other than here. Again, it amazes me how many brainless people like you float through here.

It doesn't surprises me that a few arrogant jackasses hang out here also.

I think you have read my entire post wrong. I'm not looking for HELP on anything. I'm just looking to connect with other writers with similar interests and goals. I already know what I need to do in order to seek publication. That was never what I was looking for nor was it what I asked for, but perhaps I was not clear enough. And I really don't have any desire to get ANY help from you since you are clearly just a blowhard who likes to cut people down without taking any time to understand.

Wow, you pegged him quick! (bad choice of words he likes it when his wife pegs him)

You're right, what this forum is designed for is to discuss writing. And newbies should be welcomed.

Most here are fine, but you have to put lits reigning "I'm so important" asshat on ignore to enjoy your experience.

Go ahead, use that ignore button and come back and see how quiet this thread is. Like most threads it only has one dick and you've outed him already.

Welcome to the AH BTW, My name is Lovecraft68 you can usually here that name flowing off of Pilot's tongue whether I am in a thread or not because he's jealous of me and has a big ole man crush on me. (goes back to that pegging fetish he has;))

"Hi, my name is Angela, and I just started posting here. (don't pay any attention to the police scanner noise in the background.)"

"I just wondered how many of you writing erotica here also write for the children's market and can tell me how I can too? (Please speak directly into the mike). And while we're at it, how many of you like to run the edge of underage in the stories you post here and are schoolteachers? And, what the hell, who here is writing gay male stories and is a Boy Scout master or a priest?"

"Just curious."

Hmmmm......

Wrong thread.

If any of the authorities are spooking this site they are having a field day over in the cesspool incest is best thread where they refuse to stop posting "back when I was 12 my uncle...."

But, hey, you may be off the mark with this person, but I am damn sure these threads and the content of this (and other story sites) is monitored. The feds just can't come out and say they are.

I've highlighted the parts of your first post which made most of us think you were seeking advice on writing and publishing.

I think you have read my entire post wrong. I'm not looking for HELP on anything. I'm just looking to connect with other writers with similar interests and goals. I already know what I need to do in order to seek publication. That was never what I was looking for nor was it what I asked for, but perhaps I was not clear enough. This post you've written puts an entirely different spin to your request. I'm sorry to say this, actually I just hate saying this, hate it, hate it, but if you'd have made this clear in your first post it surely would have, at least for me, raised a red flag. Which made me uneasy, so I checked your postings and the threads you've started and I find this thread you started on the Sexual Role Playing board, 'A Babysitter Who Goes the Extra Mile'. Now I just don't have a red flag, I have a very big red flag, which means I have to agree with Pilot which is the part I hate. Pilot and I don't get along very well and agreeing with him pains me but I'm not afraid to admit I'm wrong and he's right.

What in the hell are you doing here at Literotica's Author Hangout wanting to PM with people about your interest in children's fiction when that interest has nothing to do with writing?

Your credibility, shaky after your first post, has been seeking new depths with each of your posts that followed it.
