I guess that if my stuff didn't get me off I'm probably working. I you love it it's not work. I'm writing my fantasies - that's what motivates me.

I also think that if your erotica isn't getting you off it would lack luster and the lack of passion will be picked up by your readers.

First time out and on the fly I sometimes get going, it depends on the story. I.E. some of my stories are "formula" stories I put here for votes and favs, those I could care less, but the ones I write "for me" I find arousing.

I say first time out because by the third editing proofing pass I could give two shits what the characters are doing.

Coming up with the ideas, definitely. Putting words to page (er, screen), though? Sometimes, but not usually.

Writing is work. At least, it is for me. I enjoy planning stories, and I enjoy finishing them and sharing them with others. But I almost hate the process of creating them.

I feel more or less the same way about writing about my research for my day job. The research itself is fun, and I enjoy participating in scholarly exchange, but writing the actual manuscripts...is often painful.

Exactly. When you're focused on the medium through which the ideas are conveyed, rather than the ideas themselves, there's no excitement. But at some point you have to, unless you want your stories to be as unreadable as some of what's on here.

Not very much while I am writing the story however when I am suppose to be editing the damn thing I suddenly realize I am enjoying the story and am not doing a bit of editing at all.

I do not masturbate nor do I get off I just enjoy the story. (LOL) Once I am back in the editing mode I change words, phrases and sometimes add some things. Honestly by the time I am ready to submit it, I am sick of the damn thing and just want it done and gone.
