Author Awards

I was just writing my next story when I was hit by a bolt of lightning. I have an idea, and I want to see if any of you out there were thinking along the same lines as me. I was thinking that maybe we could have some kind of Awards for authors, such as: "Author of the Year" "Story of the Year" "Story Series of the Year". Things like that. This idea may not end up being very popular, or useful, but I felt that I should post it anyways, just in case.

Off the top of my head it sounds fun, but I'm not sure I'd want to feel as though I were "competing" with any of the nice people I've met here.

Besides, if the majority of people don't vote on a story, how will we get them to accurately elect winners in a variety of categories? I don't know that I'd want to work that hard on deciding who's the best this and that.

I think the Top 20 list covers the bases here.

Still, HS, you could offer your own, unofficial award every week on the BB. I think people would enjoy a little grass roots awards presentation like that. You could offer up a few nominations and ask people to vote on the BB.

Sounds pretty cool to me. I have only made the top 20 once, and only stayed there for a week. So something else might be a little enjoyable. Good idea. Why don't you do as DCL recommended and post something for people to vote on each week or how ever often you think.

I think it's a great idea, only I'm not sure what the prizes would be. We could probably get something together - if nothing else, maybe dorky certificates and trophys, or sex toy gift certificates - something...

HSWriter - I think you should be in charge of getting the categories set. "Best Story" is so droll, and we've got a Top 20 for that... We should all think of a 10-20 categories that would recognize what's going on here - perhaps a "Best Of" in each of the site categories (Fetish, Incest, etc) plus some others. I think it should be FUN, not too serious - after all, this ain't the Oscars!

Those with ideas could email HSWriter (should he decide to grab the baton on this) and he could compile them. We could set a deadline by which all the suggested categories must be submitted to you. Then, he'd post a listing of those categories, and we'd set a timeframe during which everyone could give their input as to which would be best.

Once that's settled, we could go two ways: 1) we could take nominations, wean them down to 3-4 in each category, then have voting on those; or 2) go straight to the voting and compile the results from there.

We could have awards going to specific stories, as well as a couple of awards to authors. It's all up to you guys.

Just babbling away here... I think it's a good idea. Now go, HSWriter and everyone, and make it happen!

And DCL's catagory suggestions.... ROFLMAO!!!! Best use of an appliance?!?!?! I can't even recall using a story that involved appliances. Is this a catagory I've missed??? Maybe it's just me but the hand blender seems like a painful thing.... TOOO painful!

Are you picking up the ball on this, HSWriter? I'd be glad to help you with it. I'll start coming up with some catagory ideas in the meantime.

yet another cute idea... but you think "worst grammar" as well as the other gag awards are a good idea...? (Even though there are some pretty bad ones...) You'd probably end up discouraging some writers if you're going to recognize them not for good writing but bad... hey.. maybe that's not a bad idea now that I think about it....

I think DCL's suggestions were made in fun. These awards should all be complimentary, of course - there's no need to hurt anyone's feelings! I think everyone's aware of that, though...

That doesn't mean we have to be restricted to the same old blah awards, though.. I'm making my list to send to HSWriter at this moment.

Manu and I are also working on getting together some cool prizes to give to the awards recipients. More details as I know them.

He and I were also discussing the nomination issue. We've decided it would be a much better system - logistically and otherwise - to have people nominated for each category, and then narrowing down to 5 nominees from which readers may vote.

Any constructive comments / suggestions / etc are welcome. We've never done anything like this before, so we're open to all ideas!

I think it would be a fun idea. I liked DCL's gag award ideas too. I don't think feelings would be hurt if it's done in a way that's all in good fun. Anyway you do this would be fun. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

I think it is a great idea. Hswriter good going on thinking this up. As Eve said it will be done in fun so hopefully no one will have hurt feelings. When I submit my story, I'd be up for "worst grammer or typos" I try but some get by me. I'm working on a list of titles to send to you HSWRITER. This will be fun.

Hey, good idea HS - especially if I end up with an award! I think that the authors deserve recognition of their efforts and this seems like a good way of encouraging that. Can't think of any categories other than the ones already mentioned. Hope this idea becomes reality!
