A Happy New Year to all,

So far the year is going well...then again its only a few hours old and I'm still on holidays for another few weeks. Enjoy this quiet time while you can.

WQ! I hope you're ok down there! :rose:

Those fires look fierce.

Orlanth, are your 'rents home?

Wiggles in to wish one and all a Happy New Year, hoping this year brings lots of what you need, much of what you want and a huge armful of wickedness.

Life has been interesting up this way of late. Feel like i know what Hell is like, though was thrown back (they got all the cancer so far...yay!!!). Obviously the Devil wasn't ready to be Dommed as yet. nods lots

Can the Mexicans on here keep the heatwaves to yourself please? Goodness, if i am to be dripping wet, i want it for the most sinful of reasons. ;)

Love and kisses to all the Aussie thread mob.:kiss::rose:

Quiet time? Ooh Elfie

It should be rocked by soft sighs becoming crashing crescendos of obscenities amongst wild throes of orgasms. No? Mmm You'd better come to Brisbane, i'm happy to demostrate for you..;)

Wiggles back out ......... leaving a trail of um...crumbs for the Elfin one

I can smell the smoke now.
There are two fires reasonably close by..... one about 50km to the east of me, and the other is 26km to the south west of here.

There hasn't been a big fire in my area for over 40 yrs, because all the landowners here are extremely conscientious about the dangers (thank goodness!)
Undergrowth, road verges, firebreaks, all are maintained constantly.
The B***'s down the road often tell stories about the last time this area went up.... and everyone has listened.
Hopefully we have done enough.

We have temps 10-15 degrees above normal for the next 4 days at least.

Thinking of you, WQ. :rose:

I hope the wind changes to blow them back onto themselves and out!

There was a smokey haze to the west of us tonight. Either the one in the national park has escalated or there's more today.

I hope everyone has a cool spot, a cool breeze and a coldie. ;)

Well if you would keep your hands above your waist you might get less wet :D

Nice to see you back for a short visit Ms Moon, also glad to hear things are going well on the cancer issue, nice positive news.

I've been up to Qld in the summer before and I ain't going back in those temps again and that humidity...can't hack that further up north. I find Sydney humid enough in the summer. I guess at least you guiys are getting some rain...very dry down here and just hot dry winds for the last week.

Now don't go blaiming us for those temps it comes from Adelaide and that hot desert we have in the middle of the country. On those days it feels like a blast furnace down here. That we get hot dry summers with very little moisture. Good conditions for fires though. Funny enough it was 29 yesterday and it felt like a cool change compared to that 41 on Friday and it stayed in the high 30's till the early hours of the morning....one of the hotest nights we have had for a long time. Back up to 35 today, need to go put the air con on shortly.

On the positive I did take advantage of the hot dry winds to wash the heavy stuff like woollen blankets...dry in a matter of hours.

Mid week should be much cooler then getting hot again. That makes two weeks of high temps and we aren't in Feb yet which is when it gets even hotter down in Melbourne town. I'm sure more temps in the 40's are on the way.

The only moans I heard was me complaining about my sore back and shoulders and as for the obscenities, well that was when I was trying to put a door back on in a tricky spot and cut my knuckles. Of course did the blokey thing an just wiped the blood on the shirt and kept going. The fingers were a bit tender for a couple of days though.

By quiet time I meant nobody bothering me so I can do my of stuff whilst I still have some time to myself before going back to work. I was moving furniture on those two really hot days and doing prep work for my several painting tasks. So those tasks are done and a couple of smaller ones to go. Of course then putting everything back resulted in a bit of a clean out as well, more back work involved...rest day today.

Now Ms Moon you don't need to leave bread crumbs...all I need to listen for is the clink of your jewellry

Afternoon all,

Well we got thru a bit of a hot spell down here. It was still in the high 30's at midnight and the cool change of 28 was seen as a cool change....funny how the perspective changes your norm....we normally would be saying that anything close to 30 would be a hot day....

Lots of fires around the country once again, Tassie's turn this year. It was shaping up as another bad one here, but we didn't get that run of temps in the 40's like we did a couple of years ago. Things very dry though.

Had a couple of houses catch fire from evaporative air cons not working properly, those things need lots of maintenance.

Nearly air con time again down here.

Hopefully everyone stays safe this fire season.

;)Happy to help heal those knuckles for you, Elfie ....They need bathing...warm liquid applied liberally....can definitely help you there.

Well there goes the visit to Melbourne before March then.....i loathe humidity, but hot drying winds? Not me..unless they are a blowin' where they cause an arch and a long slow sigghhhhh.........

How are you at polishing things? Have some floors i am procastinating about.....You have good fine motor skills?

Will catch up soon......just a quick fly by

Be well and mmmm not a clink......whispers...a jangle....

:kiss:MsMoon:kiss:

Hi there, Ms Moon!

Sorry that we mexicans have deemed to share said heatwave. Wouldn't have sent it if could choose. :(

It's good to see you back and even better that you you are conquering the big C. :rose:

Keep cool and sweat free.... except in, um, exceptional circumstances. :D:devil:

Just a quick drop in to let you all know that i'm still around, just not doing as much on here anymore as RL is a bit more hectic than what I'd like it to be

Stay safe every one and I'll catch up again soon

How was your Chrissy/ new year

Nickleback! Now I'm jealous!! :)

Chrissy was excellent. Went to visit the outlaws with the ex and cherubs. Daughter just turned 18 and fininshed high school, so we decided to get it together cause who knows where she'll be next year. Was a bit worried about how it would go but had a brilliant day.

New Years was gentle. Good food (vegan coz of the hosts, but sooo yummy!), funny as, animals everywhere. Had to work at 5.30 New Years so just didn't sleep. Won't be doing THAT too often. Paid for it over the next few days.

This year is starting out well. New job and old friends climbing out of the woodwork. Hope it keeps goin like this. Hope yours is a pearler, as well. :rose:

Holy cow! This thread is like a desert......

Where is everybody?????

I hope the new year has been kind to our Aussies so far. These bushfires suck. mMight be a case of be careful what you wish for. After no summer to count last year everyone here was looking forward to a real summer. Not sure we have it, anyway. Weather is up and down like a yoyo. Scorchin hot then freezing. That's altitude for ya.

Gil, I hope you're well and Bandit is managing to keep you in line. :D

W.Q, I hope things are settled down in your neck of the woods and things green up soon. What's with that silly thread on the GB?

Orlanth, I suppose you're not even noticing the heatwave. Just another variation of bloody hot ;)

I can see Mr Elf reclining on a chaise longue with a nubile women feeding him grapes....

:D:D:D

Been a pleasant day down in here but am dreading tomorrow as its meant to fire up with a vengence!

Would have popped in for a chat earlier, Trisk, but the phone rang and it was one of the old faces from here looking for a coffee and a chat..... (he will kill me for the 'Old' reference)

4 hours later....

We've spent the 'break' renovating....new in wall insulation and weatherboards, painting, new gates, new front fence, new side fence (that's only partly done as yet) extra garden for growing veggies....the old place is barely recognisable!

There's been the odd day when retreat into the cool has been necessary but otherwise its been very physical - I'm developing "hammer" muscles!

Been keeping an eye on the fire situation... family in Tassie and in rural Vic both in high fire risk areas so seem to be always on the alert 'just in case'.

Hope everyone else is safe, well and looking forward to lots of fun in the coming weeks and months.

Wow! You're doing all the things that I should be. Have lots of plans but need the funds to do it. Hopefully I'm getting closer with the new job. Will work two for awhile to catch up. Was getting very depressed about that side of things.

The whole fire watching and dousing will be going on for a while, it seems. So much of the country is affected and so many people.

The pic is of a sign on the highway not far from here. Some northwest aren't so lucky. :(

I've been having fun jaunting around the countryside in the exe's second car. He needs the kms up before March and I'm happy to oblige!

Hope you find cool shade tomorrow (oops, today) and a cool drink to enjoy in it. :)

Sounds like a busy time, I always loved home grown vegies as they have taste all the supermarkets are into is what looks perfect with no care for taste at all.

Luckily all the people I know around Aussie are doing OK with the fires but the weekend isn't looking good for all the volunteer fire fighters ( I was amazed when the NSW premier made the statement that he is cutting the rural fire service but also the city fire brigades before all these fires started).

The big shame is so many are started by kids on school holidays, strange how in my younger days we could go out from morning to night enjoying playing the holidays away.

As it turned out I had to be out in the worst of it - was absolutely wrecked by the time I made it home....:(

Still... it was pretty comfortable in the house as it had been closed up all day. Last night was pretty horrible....and today? If only it would change properly and rain...the humidity is making me ache like crazy!

We hit 45.5C / 113.9 high here with a cool 36.1C / 96.98F now.

It has been a LOT cooler here. Much more civilised :)
This is why I endure Tassie winters - because at most we have only a few hot days per summer and the rest are comfortable.

My man is home, so not on here as much.
The company flew all the crew out as soon as the worst of the cyclone weather was past.

Still a few fires burning down here, but not as bad as on the mainland now!

Stay as cool as you can, and lets hope the fact that the monsoon has finally made it to the top of Oz means there's cooler weather ahead for everyone.
